HI
I'VE SEARCHED FOR A FEW HRS. but there's an enorumus amount of info regarding converting/rf/ir signals.
i have a RS 15-1995 which has jp1 and rf . it works with the x10 devices etc.
i can't find any solution so far and it seems it's not possible, but i read a few post on bose lifestyle28 that seemed to have a way on that particular model by somehow switching it from default rf to ir
i have a lifestyle5 music center the remote is rf, in the battery compartment there are 8 dip switch's. i don't know what there for and didn't see anything regarding them in my research.
if anyone has a link or info that might help accomplish this please reply
thanks have a good one

The DIP switches change the sub-device code of the signal sent by the remote. If you change the setting you remote will most likely no longer work your Bose, so if you do experiment, be sure to write down the current setting before you start.
Normally, I would recommend that you get a C-1024 box from BlueDo.com to work your unit, but the Bose LS 5 is not one of the models that it works, so you're outta luck there.
Even though the 15-1995 sends an RF signal, the signal is configured only to be received by the base unit that came with the remote, you can't use it to control other devices.
Now, before you say "Well, it works X10", it doesn't work X10 using RF, in order to make the 15-1995 work your X10 devices, you need to get an IR543 IR-to-X10 converter box.

i found info regarding the dip switch's in the manual. basicaly there to reset the rf freq if you have another device that's causing a problem. i also found the info regarding a bose controller C-1024 as you mentioned but it's not for the lf5.
i can live with that as i've spent aq lot of time recently and in the past looking for an answer.
i'm going to try working with the jp1 connection to upgrade and customize my remotes.
i purchased thye latest khameleon which is only upgradeable via phone/modem but i have 2 others with jp1 a rs and a ofa to play with and learn.
i purchase the jp1 connector thru one of your links and look forward to seeing how i can change/improve functions and add new devices
thanks again for your reply an amassing all this info at 1 place
have a good one

Unless you are referring to one of the new European Kameleons, all the US Kameleons are JP1-compatible.TIGER1 wrote:i purchased the latest kameleon which is only upgradeable via phone/modem but i have 2 others with jp1 a rs and a ofa to play with and learn.

Re: thanks for your reply
the kameleon i just purchased does not have the 6 prong jp1 connector under the battery compartment. it has 6 blank spots without prongs where the jp1 prongs are normaly located on the 8 in 1 rc/or othr universal remotes. The Robman wrote:Unless you are referring to one of the new European Kameleons, all the US Kameleons are JP1-compatible.TIGER1 wrote:i purchased the latest kameleon which is only upgradeable via phone/modem but i have 2 others with jp1 a rs and a ofa to play with and learn.

If you wanted to use JP1 with your Kameleon, you have 2 options...
1) Solder a 6-pin onto the pads (this is what I do with the Kameleons that I sell)
2) Buy a pogo-pin adapter from one of the JP1 vendors, this is what it was designed for.

im going to check into the 2nd option to see w hat that's about. i don't do much soldering and i'm afraid of overheating.
there is a tool advertised called "cold heat". supposedly a heatless soldering tool. have you heard of that ? any opinion,if so ?
i viewed the picture of the pogo pin adapter but don't see how it is connected to the pads on the kameleon remote.
does this also need soldering?
thanks

Re: thanks again for your feedback.
That's been discussed here. Don't let the name fool you, though. It still uses heat to melt the solder. The name comes from the fact that the tip doesn't get hot and stay hot... it only heats up on contact. I have one myself and it does work, but for delicate electronics work, it can't beat a pencil tip soldering iron.TIGER1 wrote:there is a tool advertised called "cold heat". supposedly a heatless soldering tool. have you heard of that ? any opinion,if so ?

No, the pogo-pin adapter does not need any soldering. It attaches to the end of your JP1 cable and then you hold it in place on the 6 pads.
