JVC 0074 device code?

JVC 0074 device code?

Post by bizzybody »

How do I extract the full code for the JVC 0074 device from my RS 15-2104? (Which protocol does this device code use?)

The 0074 code mostly works but several of the keys are in totally wrong positions or not mapped to any button. I want to have the full device code to use with RM so I can put the buttons in normal locations.

I tried all the JVC Amp codes too, none work at all. 0074 is the only JVC Receiver code listed in the remote's manual.

1. Device: JVC RX-552V
2. Type of device: Receiver/Amp/AV-switcher
3. Remote model: RS 15-2104
4. JP1 user? yes (Got it working fine with my Apex 1100W!)
5. Still have original remote? yes
6. Checked Yahoo file section? yes
7. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? yes

Did some web whacking and found an image of the JVC RM-SR518U remote. I also found a LIRC file.

What I'm wanting to do is create an RM upgrade file that just supports the audio and radio functions, because the TV, VCR and CD player functions are only compatable with JVC brands.

The buttons needed are the Audio Power, all the buttons down the left side except the round TV button, (TV/VCR channel is used to go +/- through the radio presets too) volume +/-/mute and the surround sound buttons in the "L" shaped section at the lower right. I don't think the number keys are used for things like direct entry of radio stations, I've never connected an antenna yet.

So far I've been noodling around in RM using the KM file someone made for the JVC RX-778V (JVC-RCVR-RX-778v.txt in the JP1 Yahoo files.)

That file has several more buttons than the RM-SR518U remote, but doesn't have any number keys.

I'd like to make two upgrades, one that just operates the AV-input and radio functions and another that emulates the remote 100%.

JVC used the RM-SR518U remote with several receivers contemporary to the RX-552V, so these upgrades would apply to more than just the one box.

I still think it'd be easier to have the "raw" 0074 device data to play with.

Edit: Here are the JVC devices I've found that this remote was original equipment with.

RX-552V (My receiver, the rest are from the site I got the image from.)
DSTP518
DSTP552
RX-518VBK
RX-552VBK

There's also a "universal" JVC remote called the RM-RL1. But none of these are listed at Remote Central :(

Your 15-2104 is a learning remote, so if you were to learn the buttons from your JVC remote, you would be able to answer all of your own questions.

You could also look at the advanced code list for RCVR/0074.

Well, that didn't work. :P When loaded along with the Apex codes, the remote wouldn't recognize the 1100 code. It would recognize the 1074 but nothing worked.

Tried learning the audio power button (after doing a 981 reset) then downloaded with IR, which says part of the code is sent after the button is released. That's going to make it *fun* to figure out when to release the buttons. Couldn't be why nobody's done the JVC RM-SR518U remote yet...

I'll keep working on it.

If your previous post was correct where you stated that the built-in 0074 code worked some functions on your receiver, then you must have done something wrong, because the upgrade you are "noodling" around with is based on the 0074 code. Volume, mute & power are exactly the same as the built-in code. And it would not have stopped your Apex upgrade from working unless you are not doing the uploading right.

It sounds like you are going out of youir way to look for trouble here. Again, if the built-in 0074 code worked with your receiver, there is probably nothing that unusual about the IR commands, and I suspect you have some bad learns. But even so, you don't mention if IR said the commands were using the JVC protocol with device 163, and if an EFC was listed. Start there first; look for trouble later.

Here is a list of EFCs for the built-in RCVR/0074 code in the 15-2104. I think you'll find most of the digit keys are input select commands.

Code: Select all

BUTTON EFC
------ ---
0 024
1 059
2 121
3 119
4 026
5 182
6 251
7 022
8 057
9 053
Vol+ 246
Vol- 250
Mute 244
Ch+ 249
Ch- 245
Power 122
TV/VCR 069
Select 026
Sleep 187

Thank you.

Now what I'm wondering is why code 122 is listed here http://www.hifi-remote.com/codes2/amp_0074.shtml as Power Off, with code 024 as Power On?

In addition to 122 and 024, device code 0074 has 006, 010 and 247 for power.

This JVC remote has three seperate Power buttons, Audio (for the receiver) VCR and TV, plus a fourth button also labled TV. There's no TV input or button on the receiver.

I should try the 0074 default again to see whether or not it was able to switch to VCR. ISTR that it wouldn't. This remote is for the older JVC boxes with only one VCR input. 0074 has two VCR codes.

I'll get this eventually! I have to since no universal remote I've tried will work properly with the older "one VCR/no DVD" JVC receivers. I bet not even JVC's own RM-RL1 "universal" will work them properly.

What would be a highly useful resource is RM files for all the built in devices, set to the built in default mappings. That'd make it very much easier when one of the built in codes works but just needs some buttons moved around. :)

Would it be possible to read those from the ROM if someone with the right hardware were to sacrifice a remote?

Finally! I went through and learned all the keys in small batches then entered them into KM and saved the file, with plenty of notes.

This remote has two shift keys, which work in different ways.

The four surround sound buttons also work as center and rear volume controls when the LEVEL CONTROL button is held down. I mapped the center to the up/down arrows and rear to the left/right arrows, but a remote with a useable key for shift could emulate the original functions.

The CD-DISC button is odd because it's pressed and released, doing a temporary internal shift, then immediately followed by a number 1 through 7. According to the 0074 advanced code list on this site, those are codes for CD/0072. I did not include these in the file but documented them in the notes for anyone who wants to figure out how to incorporate them. They're really only useful if you have an older JVC compulink CD changer.

The one unsolved mystery is why number 7 is labled 7/P. Anyone have a manual for the RX-552V or RX 552VBK?

It's all setup for the 15-2104, I have the KM, RM and IR files.

I have not yet tested this with my JVC-552V receiver. I'll do that later today and if it works, I'll upload it.

Should I put it in the Yahoo files or???

Yes, put it in the Yahoo file section, as this is still the official file section, but by all means also load a copy to the new "under contruction" file section (the link is at the top of this page).

As for the user manual, see if any of these are close enough:
RX-554RBK
RX-554VBKJ
RX-558RBKJ
RX-558VBKJ

Woohoo! It works! Finally I have total control of my Home Entertainment Hodge-podge from one remote!

I uploaded to Yahoo and the forum files sections after making sure it worked.

Those are the generation immediately after the ones this remote came with. They have more inputs and more complex surround sound settings with storable profiles. To JVC, the slightly older models just don't exist. :P
