Hello. I'm brand-spanking new to all this. The object of my quest is to get my 6131 to work the major functions of my Dish 721. I'm not particularly interested in starting a new hobby, but I'm not afraid of the computer. I have Excel 2002 with the Anaysis ToolPack installed, KM & IR, a 6131 modified by Robman and a JP1 cable, so I figure I should be able to do this.
I found John Quaglino's 9131_6131.txt in the files section and loaded it into KM. In the Notes section, I have no idea what he's talking about. When he says "The 721 requires 2 devices", does that mean I'll have to give up, say, the VCR device button? If so, is this only temporary, can I re-add the VCR after key-moving the buttons I need? Lastly (for now), I have no idea what he means by "The EFC used for these key moves can be copied from the functions page."
Thanks in advance to whomever is knd enough to help! |

No, it means that it uses two different devices DishNetwork:0 and DishNetwork:1. In an JP1/OFA remote you can assign just about any device to any key, without having to assign the setup code associated with that device to a device button. In this case the newer remotes have a built in capability to handle the two devices.
That probably doesn't help much to clarify the situation but a more precise explanation would probably be even more dull and would not add any clarity.
The good news is after John Quaglino's 9131_6131.txt device upgrade was posted, Rob Crowe created a newer upgrade specifically for the newer remotes that I think includes the 6131 since it is set for the 6131.
This should work for you. But test the following buttons:
rewind
play
and see if they work. If they don't then post back and I can tell you how to fix that.
Note to Rob and Mark: I tested that upgrade with my 8811 and it doesn't work for the device=1 commands. If I substitute DishNetwork combo $01E2 it does. _________________ -Jon |

i reported that the discrete on in the original upgrade that I posted to start this thread didn't work, and in some of the notes even on the later upgrades posted by others.
I send an email to a guy I know at Echostar who reported this to the firmware team for the 721. I tested it yesterday and can convirm that the latest 721 firmware release has fixed this and that the discrete on (0x04) listed in many of these upgrades does in fact work. (discrete off always worked)
So, those of you using Macros for this device can now use the discrete on.

I see that you guys have been busy with KM and RM to use the built in protocol when possible, but being able to buidl upgrades with two devices in the. (and have renamed things to be more clear)
Anyway, some questions:
1: I've pretty much converted myself over to RM for my upgrades, but I can't find the "Dish Network Combo" protocol in the latest version that I downloaded last week. Is it in there? (I'm still working on a 721 which needs the combo)
2: I've seen people post that playin with the delays makes things work better in some cases, but even if I use KM to build the 721 upgrade (and use the ones on yahoo) where do I put the delay values?
3: I'm trying to make a 2117 work with the UHF repeater to have the PVR in the basement where it can make all the noise it wants for my bedroom TV. If I use the IR part of the 2117 by standing in the basement it works fine but if I try to use the UHF part from the bedroom on the 2nd floor it's intermittent. Any thoughts on this?
thanks guys |

Add this to the protocols.ini for remoteMaster after the last dish entry:
Code: | [Dish Network Combo]

AFAIK, that fix is in the Dish Combo protocol. IIUC, it's not the delay, it's the number of repeats in a macro that is now set at five rather than two previously.

The range may be limited on the 2117. If you cant make that work, this is the best deal out there for a remote extender. The signal goes of top of existing coax for cable TV or TV antenna. There is a little more detail regarding a hardware fix for the 2117 and this IR extender in a thread over at the AVS forum. _________________ -Jon |

BTW, I made a couple of minor changes to the ini file above and the last one was at 5:51 pm EDT. So copy the latest change, please. _________________ -Jon |

I'm trying to set up a 15-2116 remote for my brother in-law who has a Dish PVR 721. My initial attempt was unsuccessful, and I'm a bit confused about a few things.
- In KM, there are two settings I can change (Device and Remote ID's, I think). But, in the 721's system information screen it shows only one setting. It shows a remote id of '2', how does this equate to the KM settings?
- Is there any problem if the 721 uses RF remotes? I assume that the receiver will still accept IR. He also has a Dish 301 receiver, but that is on remote id '1', so I guess there is no conflict.
- There are several Dish 721 files in the file download area, which is the recommended one?
Thanks for any input.. the 721 seems more difficult than most devices. Also, since it's not my device - debugging remotely is even more difficult. |

This is the best device upgrade for both but you must create two upgrades. Unit code=Remote address. Change Unit=2 for the 721 (unit=1 for the 301), the remote to the 2116, and give one of the upgrades a different setup code like 1776.
Also note that the default is setup to a PVR(VCR) device type. That will save net memory, but it will break VPT and you will need to key move the TV or Receiver's Vol+/-/mute to those keys on the two sat upgrades. _________________ -Jon |

I am also trying to get this to work.
I'm using the device upgrade you recommended with KM 8.28.
Before I attempted to get both upgrades working I wanted to try them one at a time.
When I tried a simple test with just one upgrade with unit code=remote address = 1,
this upgrade worked perfectly with my 6131.
Then I tried the exact same test with just one upgrade except I set unit code=2 in KM
and my remote address to 2, and the 6131 will not control the sat receiver.
Setting the unit code to 2 in KM changes the first byte of the fixed data to 40.
This differs from the comments in DishPVR721 ID1-RCU810.txt that says
"fixed data byte 1 sets SatID 1(00), 2(80), 3(40)..."
I tried setting the receiver remote address to 3 to see if that matched the 40
being sent but that did not work either.
Any suggestions for getting a unit code/remote address other than 1 to work? |

Your right. If you select Unit=2, KM Master v8.25 sets the first byte of fixed data to 80 and v8.28 sets it to 40. (In v8.28 if you set unit= 0 or 1 the first byte of fixed data is 00)
However, setting the DSS receiver's remote address 3 (With unit=2 in KM ==> 40 set in the first byte of fixed data) should have worked. I just tested that. I don't have a dish receiver, but I decoded what it sent. _________________ -Jon |

Jon, Thanks. You're right - setting the receiver remote address to 3 with unit code =2 in KM
did work when I tried it again tonight. My mistake.
So with KM 8.28 is the rule that unit code should be set to remote address - 1
with the caveat that remote address 2 does not work because unit code 1
is coming out the same as unit code 0?
Do you know if this is going to be fixed so that we can somehow specify remote address 2?
Also I found your versions of the DISH PVR upgrade in this thread
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1851
and was wondering why you prefer/recommend Rob's version over yours,
which uses OBCs and the ability to directly set the fixed data so I can use remote address 2?
I tried your version and it seemed to work fine (both with and without
the protocol 2 upgrade).
Thanks. |

No. I think the unit code got broken. In reality the unit code is represented in 5-bits. Decimal 0 through 31 represents what Dish calls remote address 1 through 32. In 8.28 if you enter 0 or 1 in unit you get 00000 in binary if you enter unit=2, you get 01000 (the bits are sent backward) but that is remote address=3.
Some time ago KM (and RM) was changed to reflect that remote address-1 was what was to be set in binary, so the user could directly enter remote address. Usually, the KM team (mainly Mark with assistance from Mike and Rob) is very responsive about fixes so if they don't pick this up Ill go post a link to this thread in the software section.

I didn't go back and read the entire thread, but I think I decided to try not to add any more confusion and another upgrade version, I thought I had deleted it. But, if it works and you prefer it then no problem. _________________ -Jon |
