Free-to-Air (FTA) Protocol Attempt

Post by pptcc »

Need help finding out what I am doing wrong. I am trying to add a new protocol. It's a Free-to-Air (FTA) satillite receiver. I have learned the codes and tried to build a protocol using KM [with no luck]. Looks like there is something I'm missing. Looks to me like a straight NEC1, but the learned keys work, but the built protocol [1970] doesn't. I uploaded my IR file in the diagnostics area [IR FTA test2.IR]. Appreciate any help.

TIA

First things first: you're building an upgrade, not a protocol. An upgrade consists of the codes for the various commands. The associated protocol (executor) is called by the remote to format and send the IR signal.

Your upgrade appears to have the wrong Fixed Data which indicates you didn't enter the proper info on the Setup sheet. All the learned signals are NEC1 device 0. Entering that into KM yields "00 FF FF" for the Fixed Data; the upgrade is using "20 FF FF". That tells me you entered Deivce=0 and Sub-Device=0. Delete the Sub-Device setting and try again. FYI, a Sub-Device of <blank> is not the same as "0".

Also, you have CBL/1970 assigned to the Cable device button. All the learned signals are bound to the Cable device, so they take precedence over the upgrade (i.e. the upgrade signals are never sent in this scenario).

Also, if you want us to look at your file, please post an actual link to it. While Mark chose to look at the file this time, most experts (including myself) don't bother if there's no link (as it takes so much longer).

Thanks for the feedback. I changed the fixed data to 00 ff ff [by changing the device to 0 and pasted the update back to the profile section of IR, here's the link Test2a . I also deleted the learned keys [I had them in the original so you could see both the learned signals and the upgrade [1970] I was tring to get to work. Changing the fixed data to 00 ff ff did not help.

BTW, I deleted the learned keys before I wrote the data [with the upgrade] back to the remote and tested.

I got it to work. My 6800 was acting up a bit, but after I reset it and loaded the upgrade back into the remote, it worked fine. Thanks for the guidance and help. Next time, I will use links and the correct terminology. Thanks for your help!

pptc,

I downloaded Test2a.txt, opened the file in IR, deleted all the learned commands and uploaded your exact file (less the learned commands) to my 7800 and tested what was on the cable device and the commands transmitted were IDENTICAL to the learned commands.

Why don't you think it's working?

EDIT: I see you got it to work so disregard :-)

Rob, Not sure what you meant in your last msg. I put the link in the msg. Is there a particular way you want it added?

Yahoo uses temporary links to prevent external linking. There's a how-to written pertaining to the proper way to format a link in a message here in the forums so that anyone can get to it. Take a minute to read the Posting Links message available below in my signature (as well as Rob's).
