first let me say thank you to all who contribute to this art!
i have been lurking for almost a year and have been using my walmart 8810w with the extender for that remote to control lots of stuff. even my wife likes the setup. however, i recently got one of those $15 15-2117s at Radio Shack and am having a devil of a time getting it set up. i cannot seem to get any device upgrades to stick to the "audio" or "sat" keys. no matter what i do, when i hit the power button to activate extender2 (the one for the 2116/2117) these device keys, when pressed, read 1023 and 0392 respectively (these are some kind of default that i never copied into my ir config). similar things happen when i try to add devices to these particular keys in a non-extended configuration.
the other device keys appear to work. all of my device upgrades do stick to any of the other device keys and appear to be fully functional.
i have even tried a manufacturer reset. i have searched the forums and can't find a similarly troubled jp1er. am i overlooking something obvious?
thanks very much for any thoughts/suggestions!
stats:
using keymap master version 8.26 and IR 5.11 with a homemade JP1 cable that works well with my ofa8810w.

Re: RS 15-2116 not accepting upgrades on certain device keys
After pasting the upgrade code into IR, are you making sure to set the device button on the General tab to the proper device type/setup code? They MUST match the upgrade or, if invalid, the remote will default the device button to the factory default code.espencer wrote:no matter what i do, when i hit the power button to activate extender2 (the one for the 2116/2117) these device keys, when pressed, read 1023 and 0392 respectively (these are some kind of default that i never copied into my ir config). similar things happen when i try to add devices to these particular keys in a non-extended configuration.

I'm having a similar problem.
I'm trying to add HK AVR85 device to an RS 15-2117. I have the device type and setup code set in the General tab. When I upload to the remote, it continues to default to RCVR 1023.
I can upgrade other devices with no problems, just can't get the HK device to stick.
Is there anything else I need to/can do?
Thank you.

let's see if i can pass along the help i got the other day. you are having what sounds like an identical problem so here is what i did to solve mine with some help from sfhub and mark (i will be as detailed as i can be just to make sure we are on the same page):
from the general tab under the device buttons listing on the left side you will see your list of devices. i know this is obvious but i just want to make sure we are in the same place. down a bit in the list is the AUDIO button on the left. look to see what "type" is listed just to the right. make a note. also, look to see what the "code" is just to the right of the "type" and make a note of that. now, go to the devices tab (to the left of the protocols and raw data tabs) and find your device code that you most recently noted (it will be in the left hand pane) and make a note of the device type it is listed as (e.g. if DVD: 2006 then your type is DVD for code 2006 and must also be DVD in the type column on the left hand side of the general tab. change it in one of the two places so they are the same. this fixed things for me.
good luck!

Thank you for the detailed description.
I've made sure that I did have the matching device/setup codes in both places, but it does not work for me. I've even tried reassigning to the AUX button instead of the AUDIO button, it still does not work.
I'm using the HK-AVR85.txt from the JP1 Users group. It has device/setup code of RCVR: 1521. The 15-2117 does not seem to have any built-in codes for Harman Kardon receivers, just one for HK AMP (0892).
If it at least have 0110, I could have just used the advanced codes.
