I recently got a URC 6131 from Rob. Thanks Rob it arrived a few days after our email correspondence.
I had a few questions for the forum to help me focus my research. I am using a USB JP1 cable I made and have all 6 device keys used up. I would still like to be able to control my CD player which is a cheap Admiral (don't have the model # with me) and I have an RCA 4 device selector (the cheaper one that you have to push the device key 1-4, again no model # with me.)
So my question what is the best/easiest way to do this? Should I be looking at an extender? Or is there another way that will work with out an extender.
Rob told me that the remote was capable of controlling more devices than the 6 device keys it has so I'm just trying to see how to go about adding 2 more devices.
I would appreciate any input and guidance that might help direct my searches and hear how others would do it.
Thanks to all that care to answer,
Brian

There are 2 "phantom" device buttons that don't have physical buttons. These are dev7 and dev8. You can use these devices by creating macros on other keys to activate those device modes. For example, you could create a macro on shift-Audio that would simply invoke dev7, which would in turn be assigned the setup code for your CD player. You could do something similar for dev8 and the device selected.

If you're not using the Tivo Thumbs up/down buttons, those would make good device buttons too.

Thanks for both replies. I saw the extra dev7 and dev8 in IR.exe and could not figure out what they were for. This is great as they will take care of what I need. I am really interesting in the shift function. Is there a "shift" key? That way I can use the DVD key as my DVD and CD device key. The RCA selector I may try to assign to a key and them move that to a device button. Can you assign a macro to a device button with a 6131? Hopefully I will have time to play with it tonight so I may have a few more questions comming.
Thanks again,
Brian
Thanks again,

The SET key is the shift key. Press it once before pressing another key, and that key is shifted.
In order to assign macros to device buttons on the 6131 you must install the extender. That's what I use. You do not need the extender to assign macros to shifted device buttons.

Just FYI, I always program 2 macros into the remotes that I sell that invoke the 7th and 8th device buttons, you should be able to see them on the Macros tab in IR.
