I also am looking for a source for the 6 pin connector to use with this cable.
Thanks.
(Oh, I want to build one at lunch, which is in 1 hour or so for me, hense the "hurry"

I was thinking of buying a fairly large quantity of these (I have resources at work as well as locally) and perhaps using the cat5 cable, create several (20-40) cable assemblies for those who may have all the parts but this connector (thanks againThe Robman wrote:Yes you can use CAT5 cable, any old cable would do, there are no special requirements.
As for the IDC, I have no idea where you would find one in the next hour, so I recommend that you simply cut a larger IDC down to size (ie, like the kind you might use for a hard drive cable). I believe there are some documents on this in either the Hardware or Interfaces folders.
IIRC, AMP is now Tyco.broderp wrote:On a side note and a LONG SHOT, I was thinking of POSSIBLY meeting with our AMP rep or TYCO rep during one of our regular meeting and see how much it would be to have a RJ45 TYPE connector made custom that would allow us to use the standard crimp and cutting tools for networking but instead of the usual 8 pin end, have a matching dual row connector with 6 pins. (the extra 2 will be crimped, but not brought thru to the outside.)

Anyway, since I work for one of their competitors, I can tell you that is really a LONG SHOT!You're probably looking at custom tooling charges of several thousands of dollars before you even buy the first connector. Not to mention if the proposed volume isn't in the tens or hundreds of thousands, they probably wouldn't even be interested.
The part Rob mentioned is an IDC connector and could easily be used to terminate Cat-5 cable with a little patience (I've used them with telephone wire myself). They're already available and dirt cheap.
