Can EFC translated into Key Magic Function Code?

Post by f-a »

Hi,

I've bought a OFA URC-7562 remote and got some codes uploaded via telephone from the OFA support. They've also mailed me a list of function codes for these added codes which can be used with the key magic feature (Hold Magic key, press 9 9 4, press Magic key, enter 3-digit function code and press button which will be assigned to function).

Now I've used IR to download my settings and would like to see these function codes in IR, too. I had assumed that the EFC is the function code, but the codes listed in IR don't match with the codes I've got from the support.

Example:
For Hauppauge WinTV PVR-350 Remote I've got a SAT code number 1408. The "0" Button has a function code 429, but a EFC 173.

What am I missing and how can I calculate the function codes from the values IR displays?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

You're not missing anything. EFC's are often supplied by UEI as multiples of 256. Therefore, 429-256=173. Either one will work.

Thank you for this hint :)

Now I have another question related to this topic. In IR devices view I only see the EFC codes that are actually mapped to buttons. Is there any way to get a list of all EFC codes (even unmapped) in IR?

Think about that a second and ask yourself, how would IR do that?

When you look at a device upgrade in IR, all you can see is all that's there, in other words, you can just see the buttons you programmed.

For most setup codes, there are 256 possible EFCs, some of which will perform a function on your device, most however will do nothing. There is no way that IR can possibly know which is which.

Now it's s totally different story for KM and RM. When someone creates an upgrade using KM or RM, they should include all known functions, regardless of whether they actually program them to buttons. Therefore, when you come along and download their upgrade, you might decide to include some functions yourself that they chose not to include.

If you decide to create an upgrade for your device, hopefully you will include all the functions that UEI sent you, not just the ones that you chose to use.
