JP1, please don't post complete KM files here in the forum. Instead, please load it up into the Diagnosis Area and then post a link to it. (And PLEASE read the sticky post that explains how to post links first, as I predict that you will post a bad link otherwise).

This is explained in the help link I posted earlier...

If you already have an upgrade file (is it something you downloaded from the Files area? If so, which file is it?), open KM and then LOAD the file. Select the 8910 remote on KM's Setup sheet. Go to the Buttons sheet and make sure the functions are assigned to your liking. Go back to the Setup sheet and copy the Device Upgrade Code.

Fire up IR, open your existing configuration file (or download from the remote to start a new one). Go to the Devices tab, click the Add button, and paste in the copied code from KM. Click OK, and go to IR's General tab. Select the device button you want to use to control the device and make sure it's set to the SAME device type/setup code as the upgrade.

Upload that to the remote and test it out.
Where is the diagnosis Area?
You'll find the Diagnosis Area over at the Yahoo JP1 group.

Care to share? As you have found, it's very hard for us experts to acurately guess all the mistakes newbies are likely to make, so if you could tell us what mistakes you made it might help us help the next newbie.

Well, first of all- ihaven,t read ANY 'How To's' , oooops!!! secondly, didn't know that i have to put those particular code #'s in certain windows in IR.Exe. because i simply coudn't find any info about that particular step-i think al those infos and manuals shoul be written by pros with some newbies assistance- that would have saved us a lot of time.other than that- great help, thanks so much !

Here's your chance to make a great contribution. Could you read the current help document and tell me where you think the details are unclear or where you think it could be better explained for a newbie.

I actually found all of the help documents extremely well written, and well thought out.

They are helped greatly by their judicious use of screenshots and illustrations.

With the aid of these documents, and a few searches through the forums, I was able to build my cable, and set up my remote to control all of my devices, including all of the keys from the OEM remotes, and a few frills - with loads of memory left over - all within a few days of starting out.

Sure you have to read through the documents first, to get a grip of the concepts and terminology - but considering the complexities involved I think the documents do a great job of explaining it all.

But of course, it would be great to see them made even better ... :)
