Checking in after a long absence

Post by Capn Trips »

Gentlemen, it's great to see that this forum continues to thrive! Life has intervened and I have (obviously) not been engaged in "hard-core" JP1-ing for a number of years, but I have been using my JP1 remotes regularly, and every time I need to program them, I come back here. It's phenomenal how much time and effort the experts devote to this hobby, and I have certainly been the beneficiary of that work over the years.

I came back this week, as I upgraded my home theater system, and needed to re-learn and reprogram my XSight AR18s for two separate locations with complex hookups (Yes, I still have Blu-Ray, HDDVD, regular code-free DVD, VHS and LaserDisc players hooked up!), although 90% of my viewing is via Firestick, which doesn't respond to IR! (Rats!) So I need the Firestick remote sitting there next to my XSight all the time. But with the tools, I get my XSight to do everything else for all of my disparate gear.

So I just wanted to say "Hello" to Rob, mathdon, and all the rest of you experts who keep this moving forward, and to let y'all know that I'm not gone yet.

P.S. I still have quite a supply of JP1 remotes that I will never use, if anybody wants them, you're welcome to them for the cost of shipping.

It's good to be seen! ;)

So, are there any decent current production model Universal Electronics remotes being sold by anyone? I can't find an analog for the XSight/Nevo design that I've really come to rely on. I guess there are a few hard button JP1 remotes out there from Insignia, but is that about it? The remotes on the OFA page look pretty weak, compared to the classics like the 15-1994, Atlas OCAP, and others.

How lovely to see you back, Cap'n. I used to look forward to your posts when you were still active in the forum. I have often wondered how you are doing, as I recall that you had health problems related to your Navy service. I am glad to know that you are still around and active, as I am, and hope that both of us will continue to be so for some years to come.
