Your wish is my command... See upload.

I also added another feature at Nils' request. IR 5.00 will save the info in both formats now. Obviously the .TXT file will not have the notes. That way you always have a traditional version of any buffer upgrades in case it is needed with other apps.

Caveat however. If you open a TXT file and issue an explicit save it will overwrite the IR file. Remember it thinks you are starting new.

So what I would do is this:

1- Start with an exisitng TXT file
2- Add any notes, changes, etc.
3- When saving IR 5.00 will automatically create .TXT and .IR
4- Henceforth only use the .IR version and let IR 5.00 take care of the saving automatically

Questions, comments......

Looks good.

One more cosmetic issue: if you enter multi-line notes, the rows auto-size to the correct height. If you delete some of the note lines, resizing still works. If you delete ALL notes for a given entry, the row does not dynamically resize (it remains whatever height it was previously).

Resizing seems to be all set.

For what you're doing, the explanation makes sense. I'm not sure about automatically saving both versions; I think it should be user selectable, but that's just my opinion. Since it's only supposed to be temporary until the other tools that use IR files get modified, I can live with it as is.

So are we ready to rock and roll. I'd like to do is close this chapter.

Any other requirements would be for the next release

Saving both all the time may not have been my first choice either and I know sometimes easy isn't always the best but since this was to be a short lived option it seemed like the logical way to go.

Unless any bugs pop up I would vote to close this one and move on to the other enhancements being discussed for the "next release(s)"

Just when you thought it was safe...

I've discovered another bug. If I open an existing file that contains device and/or protocol notes, then select File, New to start a new file, make some changes and save it as a new name, the saved file contains some leftover notes from the devices/protocols from the first file (even though the actual upgrades DON'T exist in the new file). It seems like something's not getting cleared out or initialized when selecting File, New.

I hope I explained this well enough for you to reproduce it.

You are probably correct. Something is not being properly initialized. I'll fix it.

The leftover data seems to be gone now. ;)

I've got to do a little more testing (but probably won't get to it until later today), but I've been having sporadic troubles with Save As.

So far, what appears to be happening is if I open an existing file, make modifications that include adding or editing notes, and try to Save As specifying a new name, the new file is NOT saved. If I then immediately try to do Open, New, or Exit, IR warns me that "The data has changed. Do you want to save the changes?". If my changes don't invlove notes, it seems to work.

The worst problem is I can't find any consistency to this behaviour. As soon as I get more time to test it, I'll try to come up with more details for you (unless you find something obvious in your code in the meantime).

Ok, what's going on here? :?

I earlier downloaded the IR5 zip and tested it (v5.0 dated 4/26/2004 8:23 am). I just downloaded it again (to another computer), but it contains v4.01 (dated 12/8/2003 5:01 pm).

Am I caught in a time warp?

What's the difference between this latest version and the one you uploaded earlier this morning?
