Keymap-Master or RemoteMaster

Post by stevendlutz »

Hi all,

I am brand new to JP1. I built my cable today, this evening I am getting the applications ready to go. I am ready for the UPS man with my URC-8910 any day now.

I have found all of the support and documentation online to be very helpful and informative. Thanks Rob et. al. for all your work.

I am relativly comfortable with using JAVA applications, does RemoteMaster have all the functionality of Keymap-Master? For a newbie which "master" is recommended?

Thanks, Steven

KeymapMaster (KM) does a little more than RemoteMaster (RM). But KM requires Microsoft Excel (not free), while RM requires Java (free)
.
There are some protocols that RM doesn't (yet) handle. There are some places where RM's output is incorrect. However, there are a number of users, even advanced users, who use RM exclusively.

The RM user interface is better (IMO), and probably easier for a newbie to use. RM can import most KM device upgrades, KM cannot import RM device upgrades. It is pretty simple to copy-n-paste information from one to the other even when importing doesn't work.
