Problem uploading to Cinema 7 and learning from Yamaha remot

I used KM to create an upgrade for my Yamaha receiver (actually, I made use of an upgrade that someone else had created for a receiver similar to mine). I copied the upgrade to IR and, as far as I could tell, it was successful. Then I uploaded the uploaded to the Cinema 7. The light at the bottom right of the spreadsheet blinked and everything appeared ok. However, most of what was in the upgrade doesn't work. Instead, the buttons work as defined originally. However, a macro that I had added in IR executed almost as expected--not completely because the macro relied on some of the newly defined buttons. I have tried this procedure several times and the result is always the same.

Also, when I attempt to learn from my Yamaha home theater receiver remote, it fails. Although when I download the information from the remote it says that it learned the correct EFC i.e. when I input the EFC directly by using the setup key on the remote it works correctly. However, this is minor compared to the above problem.

It may be more important to know what the light on the Cinema 7 did at that moment. If your reset signal in the JP1 cable is working perfectly, the Cinema 7 LED should double blink at the end of the upload.

If the reset isn't working, there are work arounds. You can still use the JP1 cable and software. If the LED does nothing at the end of upload, what does it do when you disconnect the JP1 cable?

That tells me you didn't change the setup code on IR's general Tab to select a new setup code for the device.

What setup code did you assign to the device when creating the upgrade? Most people use a different setup code for the upgrade than for the original. If so then you need to change it on the general tab as well. But if the upgrade has the same setup code as the orriginal then leaving it the same on the general tab is right (and reset wouldn't be an issue either) so something else must be wrong.

I tried the upload again and got the double blink. I double checked to make sure that the upgrade code numbers matched. This time some of the buttons changed but not all of them. I carefully checked the button map and the efc's. I also directly try the efc's and they work. I'm frustrated.

When you opened that upgrade file, did you change the remote to the Cinema 7 (URC-7800 or URC-7200 as appropriate)? Remember, upgrades are remote-specific.

Yes, I made sure that it was changed to urc 7800.

Are there existing key moves bound to the upgrade device that might be overriding the upgrade? Also, what do you mean by "some of the buttons changed but not all of them"?

I just checked to make sure. There are no key moves bound to the receiver device.

I am trying to set up the remote so that it will turn the receiver to the correct input and set the correct surround mode. So, I used the number pad for the inputs and the surround mode. Numbers 1, 2 and 3 do what I mapped in KM. Also, number 5 and 6 appear to do what I mapped. However, 4 does not.

Quick follow up. I was wrong. The failed learning attempt with the Yamaha remote was learned to key 4. I deleted it and the upload works. Thanks for your help. I hope that I won't need any more, but that is unlikely. If you hadn't led me through the logic, it would have taken me days to figure out what I had done wrong. Once again, thanks.

Just FYI, this kind of mistake is very common and is one of the first things the experts look for, so next time you are in a situation like this, load your IR.exe file to the Diagnosis Area folder (at Yahoo) and post a link to it. I bet one of us would have spotted the mistake in seconds.
