Programming JP1 with Nyko Blu-Wave Remote for PS3

Post by aleksh »

I have a UEI JP1.3 universal remote that came with my set-top box that I use to control my set-top PVR, Harmon Kardon AVR, Samsung LCD TV, and I would like to now have it control my PS3.

I have researched that buying a Nyko Blu-Wave controller with the USB will give me IR capabilities in order to have the universal remote learn. Is this true?

If so, how do I go about either programming or finding the code for the JP! to work with the Nyko Blu-Wave.

Also, how do i program other buttons of my JP1 to control specific input sources for my AVR like toggling between HDM1 and HDMI 2.

My goal is to be able to control volume, playback, input etc. when watching a movie or cable all from one remote. I also understand that the NyKO does not do power on/off. I just did not want to buy the Sony remote which would just add to the pile.

Any help appreciated.

Yes, it is true. Found a match and recorded the IR signals with the JP1 tools to create the respective files.

eferz,

While your enthusiasm is greatly appreciated, we already had 3 Nyko Blu-wave upgrades. Since our existing upgrades are often better than the ones from the harmony database, please do a quick search in our file section first before you go to too much trouble building a new file.

alekh,

Sony DVD codes should work fine with the latest Nyko, so you don't really need an upgrade. There is an older version that doesn't use sony DVD codes. If you turn on Anynet on your tv and BraviLink on the PS3, then samsung transport controls will work through your TV over HDMI to control the PS3, so a Nyko dongle isn't needed at all.

This is rather embarrassing. Earlier my search [a], only presented the upgrade made by donphillpe [b] which referenced the Sony20 protocol. That's why I created the one with the NEC protocol. However, now that you mention it, performing this search [c] shows them all. I usually don't opt the manufacturer because it usually ends up proving too many false positives. This is demonstrated here with the 410 [d] results vs the 75 results [e]. Guess I'm going to have to be a little more creative in automating this process.

I realize that you're referring to trademarked names of Sony and Samsung's implementation of HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronic Control). However, I should point out that my older "fat" PS3 has never exhibited this capability. It seems from the internet consensus this has only been implemented in the Slim models of PS3.
