10. Learning remote question? Can someone convert the Pronto file to a JP1 file -or - give me a hand with debugging the learning problem I am having?

I learned the codes from a Microsoft Media Centre Remote Model 1039 RC6 but am finding the learned codes are not being properly responded to by my PC.

e.g. - the 'up' arrow code will work ONCE but subsequent presses of the key are not responded to. If I press the 'down' arrow key the PC responds moving the cursor down one position - but subsequent presses of that key are not responded to.

So I can basically move up then down then up - but that is it.

I thought I had found the problem when I noticed that the Misc code was T=0 on one learn session and T=1 on another session - but both learnings yielded the same result - only one cursor move before no response.

The learned codes for 'up' were learned twice in case I missed the learning. Note that Misc was T=0 once and T=1 a second time - but neither codes work properly.

You didn't do anything wrong. The problem is that the RC6 protocol uses what we call a "toggle bit" that changes (as you have seen in the learned signals) with each occurrence of the signal. The toggle bit makes using learned signals futile.

Your best bet is to use the learned signal decode details and build an upgrade for the device. Upgrades don't have a problem with the toggle bit as it's built into the protocol and not part of the individual signal.

Do you mean to continue to learn all the commands then build a km file from them?

Yes... an upgrade is the only way around the toggle bit.

OK I can see why I could not find the file referred to in the previous post - as I had been searching using 'microsoft media centre' and '1039' as search items. Could you add those to the description of the file - to make it easier to find it?

I tried adding the KM MCE file to my remote & it is now working - so many thanks to the developer.

I see in the notes on the MCE txt file mention for me to 'set the options in the Manual Settings table'. Can I get some tips on what I might change in that area - as even with the help text in 'protocol help' I am still clueless as to what I would change. I searched for 'Manual Settings' but could not find any documentation on it.

I also noted there were two other 3'rd party protocol codes in the 'notes' section of the km file. The first 3'rd party protocol code is complete - with 'upgrade protocol 0' at the start and 'end' at the end. The second 3'rd party protocol code has the 'upgrade protocol 0' at the start but does not have the 'end' word at the end - I'm guessing this is because they ran out of room in the notes field so all I would do is add in the word 'end' on a new line if I needed to try that file?

With my Radio Shack 15-1994 remote I have Windows Media Centre defined through a km file onto Aux2 and an Onkyo receiver defined through a km file onto Aux1.

In the ir program I have Volume Pass Through VPT device = AUX1 VPT status On.

The Volume is not working in the AUX2 setting - even after I tried 'learning' the Onkyo volume codes into Aux2.

It might help to post your IR and KM files.

I'm taking it you would not need the km files as they came right off this forum & were not modified.

VPT doesn't work when the type of the setup code (Cable in this case) is not the same as the default type for the button (AUX2).

You don't have any learned signals in the .ir file you posted, so I can't tell you why that didn't work. But KeyMoves would be better than learned signals.

I think the default type for AUX2 is Audio, so you could modify your 1272 upgrade (in KM) to be audio type instead of Cable then reinstall it.

There may be reasons that modifying it to audio type won't be good. If that isn't good, the other method is to define KeyMoves for the three vol keys in AUX2 mode.

I take it that means that you got the MCE upgrade working.

The reason that the VPT isn't working is because you've assigned a "cable" code to an "audio" device button. To fix it, you should either re-create the "cable" upgrade as an "audio" upgrade, or you should keymove the three volume buttons from AUX1 mode to AUX2.

Yes I did get the MCE working with the MCE file you had pointed me to. - Thanks for that.

I went into km and changed the MCE file from cable to audio then re-imported it into ir.

Volume punch through was still not working - so I put in the key moves for vol+ vol- and mute - and now it is working fine.

I downloaded the media center upgrade, uploaded it to my urc 9910, but when I push any buttons, I can't control my Media Center PC. I don't think any signals are going out. The reason I think this is true is because the red LED on the remote flashes once very quick (as opposed to the longer flash when it works) and the indicator that usually indicates that a signal is being sent on the LCD of the remote does not flash.

Any suggestions?

Sorry, If I had read the directions a little more carefully. Forgot to change the remore on the KM master. Now all works fine.
