JP1 Remotes

I recently purchased a URC8811 without realizing how powerful it could be. I have it doing everything I need except one thing to meet the wife acceptance factor.

We currently use a DCT-2500 digital cable box and its remote, it came configured so the power button turned on the TV and the cable box which is ideal.

I was able to create a macro on M1 that does this just fine. I'd really like to have the power button do this when in the cable and/or tv mode. However, when I assign this macro to the power button, it is active for all modes.

Will I need to get a JP1 cable and then setup DSM? Or can I do what I want without JP1.

Here's how you can do it. First, pick a button that you don't use for any other purpose. For the purpose of this example, let's pick the L4 button.

1) program a keymove that copies the TV POWER button to the L4 button in CBL mode.
2) program a keymove that copies the CBL POWER button to the L4 button in TV mode.
3) program a 2-step macro to the POWER button where the steps are POWER and L4.

When you press POWER in either TV or CBL mode, it will toggle the power on both the TV and the cable box, and when you press it in all other modes, it will just work the power of the device in question (as long as you don't program anything to the L4 button in that device mode.

Note #1: you could use learning instead of a keymove for steps 1 and/or 2 above, if you prefer.
Note #2: you could use a shifted button instead of L4 if you like, just remember to include the SET button in the macro.
