I'm creating this sticky post as a starting point for people looking for info on the CaptureIR program that you may see referenced in other posts.
To use this program you need to first assemble the IR capture device.
The spec for the device is here:
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=2044
The thread discussing the device itself is here:
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3569
Next you'll need the program, "prototype 10" can be downloaded from here:
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=2068
The thread discussing the CaptureIR program is here:
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4797
John Fine has also created a modified version of the program which can be downloaded from here:
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=3760
This version was announced here:
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewt ... 5956#p35956
and here:
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewt ... 9801#p39801
Finally, as it's a Java program, if you haven't already installed the Java RTE (Run Time Environment) on your PC, you will need to do so. (Note: if you've ever used RM, you already have Java on your PC).
You can download Java (at least 1.4.2) from here:
