JP1 Remotes

I wanted to open a discussion on the new hybrid Kameleon, because it seems like it has lots of potential. My name's Bob...you may remember me from my troubles with the rcu-810 (mostly 'cause I suck at soldering). Which is why this remote is cool...no soldering! It comes with the 6-pin male connector. So now all I need to know is if there is compatibility with KM or RM. Are there any RDF's or extenders that I can use?

Although this remote boasts about "the World's Largest Code Library", it does not support my Directv receiver (D10). I downloaded the KM codes for this receiver a while ago for use with the rcu-810. Can I use this somehow? I'm wondering if this remote even needs all of that, though. There's an "Upgrading" section in the book in which it describes how you can just call Customer Service, and they may be able to tell you the code to use. If they don't have it, they write: "...we will need to 'capture' the code for that device from its original remote control". Customer Service can instruct you on how to do it. Is this the future of universal remotes? Where we don't even get to have the fun of hacking into it and upgrading and changing it?

I'll give the Cust. Serv. a call this week, and let ya'll know how it worked out. It will be interesting to see if they can get me the correct code for the SAT receiver, since I've tried all of the codes in their "Largest Code Library" already.

Call Customer Service; they have the world's biggest code library but can only fit part of it into any remote. This is the (near) future of remote controls until someone finds a way to communicate with the the new chip sported by this remote (I think that the 6 pins that you see might have "JP1.2" written next to them).

The only way to upgrade the urc-6690 is by mail, I would just teach the 6690 the D10 commands, it can learn about 100 commands. I like the 6690 myself.
