JP1 Remotes

Hi

Since I upgraded to Windows XP Service Pack 2 the interface check fails everytime. If I try to download from the remote I get a "Unable to open device: check connections" message.

What can I do to get everything working as smoothly as it did before my OS update?

That sounds like you don't have admin rights on your user account.

I checked my account and I do have admin rights.

Any other suggestion?

I had the same thing happend and I had to reinstall/copy a 'dll' into the windows system directory.. but for the life of me I don't remember which 'dll' I had to copy.... sorry could not be more help but maybe this might help point you in the right direction of doing forum searches??

I had the same thing happend and I had to reinstall/copy a 'dll' into the windows system directory.. but for the life of me I don't remember which 'dll' I had to copy.... sorry could not be more help but maybe this might help point you in the right direction of doing forum searches??

AFAIK, the only file IR requires is gwiopm.sys. It should be in the same directory IR.exe is run from unless it's being run from a network location. In that case I think locating it in the System directory works but I'm not positive.

That was the file that had to copy "gwiopm.sys" to my C:\Windows directory to get "IR.EXE" to run on my system... I am running WinXP-Pro with SP2 update...

My strategy would be to check the hardware settings then eliminate the software side of things and then (last resort) the hardware itself. Try each of the following and test the interface after each step:

1] Re-boot and check the BIOS LPT1 settings - I can't get near a machine that allows me to do this at present but IIRC you should set it to "EPP" (and if that doen't work then try "ECP" or a different setting).
2] Look in Control Panel for the port settings (try disabling interrupts, setting address to 0378)
3] Run a virus scan (you never know)
4] Delete and then re-install IR.EXE and its components
5] See this thread regarding the need for certain pins to be jumpered for certain machines (seems less likely given that your cable was working before SP2):

6] Just to confirm whether the problem is with the cable or with XP, try it on a non-XP machine (come to think of it, if you have easy access to such a machine then do this first).

Place the file in \Windows\System32 and see if that helps.

If that file is needed in the system32 folder then decodeIR.dll is most likely going to be needed there as well.

There or the directory IR is in. Putting it in \System32 makes sense if you're going to use any other tools that require DecodeIR.dll.

Thanks to all of you for your kind assistance.

After following all your suggestions, I found out that the system file(driver) for the usb interface had been removed by the XP SP2 installer. Checking for the usb material pilots I saw that I had to reinstall it.

Now everything is back to normal.
