Learning from Keyspan Express

I'm attempting to learn and then create an upgrade to support the Keyspan Express Remote (used to control iTunes via the Apple Airport Express).

Capturing the learned functions on the URC-8811 results in:

Protocol: JVC2
Device:1
EFC: 181
Hex command: FF

for ALL keys captured. That is, all keys are generating this same bogus EFC. See file: https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=1334

I'm able to learn different keys from other remotes I have so am pretty sure my technique is okay.

Thanks,
Bob

Do the learned keys work? Are there any more commands?

It looks like this as a first guess:

{38.5k}<1066,-672|728,-1348>(2418,2376,F:7,D:7,T:1,1716,-50m)+

Please learn the first five commands twice to buttons 1 through 0. Ex. Play on button 1 and then again on button 2. This way I can see if the bottom bit is a toggle.

The decoder is being fooled in thinking it's JVC. The commands are all different from each other.

Jon -

Thanks for the quick reply.

Sorry, yes, the learned codes seem to work.

Here's all of the commands that the remote supports and the mapping to the uploaded file https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=1335

Stop - DVD 1 & 2 keys
Play - DVD 3 & 4
Pause - DVD 5 & 6
Fast Fwd - DVD 7 & 8

Prev Track - VCR 1 & 2
Next Track - VCR 3 & 4
Volume Up - VCR 5 & 6
Volume Down - VCR 7 & 8

Mute - CD 1 & 2
Cycle (shuffle) - CD 3 & 4

Bob, give this device and protocol upgrade a try. You must copy both the device AND protocol upgrade into IR.

No luck

Jon -

Uploaded new device and protocol. No luck. Signals being transmitted (red, received signal LED blinks on Keyspan receiver) but no actions being done.

Just to verify:

Loaded your .txt file in keymap-master-8.31
Changed remote to URC-881X / 801x / 601x
Left setup code as 2010
Left device type as VCR
Left button codes as OBC
Protocol name is Manual Settings
Device1 is 7

Copied device and protocol into ir.exe
Uploaded to remote & tested.

Ideas? Can I collect any more data on my end?

Thanks,
Bob

Try this protocol upgrade instead. The device upgrade is the same and you can just delete the old protocol in IR and add|copy in the new one and upload to your remote:

Upgrade protocol 0 = 01 F0 (S3C8+) iTunes_PB (PB v3.11)
43 89 12 8B 15 89 25 06 08 01 6C 02 8E 02 15 01
3C 61 03 04 B9 04 8F FF FF 01 08 00 27 0F 05 8D
01 46
End

The actual protocol can't be exactly reproduced by Protocol builder, so I tried a trick in the last one and I'm trying the other trick in this one. If neither of these work than I'll have to do some minor modifications:

For the experts here, this is the real protocol:

{38.5k}<1066,-672|728,-1348>(2418,2376,F:7,D:7,T:1,1716,-50m)+

And the values in bold are the problem. The first attempt was:

{38.5k}<1066,-672|728,-1348>(1716,-3078,F:7,D:7,T:1,1716,-50m)+

The new protocol is:
{38.5k}<1066,-672|728,-1348>(2418,2376,F:7,D:7,T:1,2418,-50m)+

Frankly, I'm surprised it was that discriminating and hopefully this will work.

Closure?

I didn't see closure on this although it may have occurred by private email. I tried the second protocol and it worked fine. I didn't try the first. I found the device upgrade didn't work but that's probably because I have a 6131. I'm still new to this. However by reading the txt file I could figure out the hex codes so I got it all running.

Jon - thank you for the protocol. I'm finally down to one remote!

why even bother learning that remote, Its easier to use the jvc_vcr.rem file for the and remap those keys in the keyspan mapper. give you more controls too.

If it's used through the airport express the keymapper application doesn't work. I tried to get that to fly and corresponded with Keyspan customer service. The confirmed that keymapper only works when the receiver is plugged directly into the PC.

To use it on the airport express, it seems either it needs to be learned or programmed per Jon's help above.

I finally figured out how to do this simple protocol and it's here.

This puts out the exact same signal as the OEM remote accoridng to my testing. sbird, after saving your existing configuration in IR, do a 981 reset and load only this device AND protocol upgrade and give it a try. If that works try reloading your device upgrades one by one. Your existing configuratiion that I tried some time back in my 8811 seemed corrupted.
