JP1 Remotes

I've loaded the TiVo Series 2 upgrade to KM. The Buttons sheet shows @ com/skip for function 'guide'. IR's Key Move says VCR | Com/Skip = VCR VCR 0618 150 guide.

But uploading to remote and using com/skip from either device doesn't fire anything.

I don't understand what you mead by "uploading to remove" or "from either device". What two devices?

IIRC, the COMP SKIP button is not programmable using keymoves or learning (without an extender), so pick another button for this function.

Also, note that for the SAT device, you have chosen setup code SAT/1142, for which there is no keymove defined on the com skip button, so that wouldn't work even if you keymoves worled on the com skip button.

Another point of interest is that you chose an old (almost 2 years!) TiVo upgrade file that isn't the best one for your use. I would suggest using the TiVo Master File instead. This won't require a protocol upgrade, so will use less memory on your remote. Also, because the URC9910 has the more recent TiVo support, you can add functions using just advanced codes, you don't need a full upgrade.

BTW, if I were trying to find a place to assign the guide function, I would choose the Guide button. I would use the TV/VID button for the Live TV function, and I would put the List function on the Menu button, and Menu function on shift-Menu, just now that I have the List function available, I rarely use the Menu function.

Thx for the pointer to a more uptodate file...and what key does the 9910 use to 'shift'?

The same key as every other remote in the JP1 world, the one that you use to program the remote (ie, SET, SETUP, MAGIC, P, etc)

I guess i was figuring shift was a runtime function while 'set' is specific to programming mode.

Unlike my 8810, to use the set key as "shift" on the 9910 the set key needs to be pushed two times in a row. (It seems that the on-screen programming has changed things a bit.)

That only applies to an unextended remote when using the numeric (0-9) buttons. A single press of set is all that's need for any other button.

Yeh, because my TV has 7 video inputs to scroll through, I set the discrete direct access codes on the number keys 1 to 7. So your point about how the double shift only applies to the numbers is a good one.

Here's a trick that might work to eliminate the double "set" for numeric keys. If you have an unused or more convenient button you could set up a macro to assign the "set" command to it. This gives you an easier button to press for "shifted" functions than the recessed "set" button and (I think) removes the double press requirement (only applies to the physical "set" key not the "set" function) for numeric keys. (I don't have the remote set up right now to be able to test this -- I always move the "set" function to another key whenever possible for shifted function usage.)

I believe you would need to include 2 presses of SET for it to work with the numeric buttons. I don't know what would happen if you used 2 presses of SET with the other buttons, it might also work.

I just tried it (on my free "broken" 8910 courtesy of BlueDo) and found that Rob is right (surprise?) but reassigning my "Guide" button to "set";"set" with a macro does work for my other shifted buttons as well as the numeric keys.

Since using a shifted numeric button within a macro only requires you to "add shifted" I had hoped reassigning "set" within a macro would have a similar effect.
