JP1 Remotes

Hi, I'm just getting started with this whole JP1 thing and things were going well. I read all the docs I could find and successfully connected my remote ( Atlas DVP/PVR 5 - Device ). I then managed to modify a device upgrade for my Kenwood VR407 and successfully copied it to IR and uploaded it the remote. So far so good. Now I am trying to assign some of the amp functions to the CBL device. This is where I ran into problems, I can't seem to add a valid key move no matter what I try.

I'll detail what I did and maybe somebody can spot what I did wrong.
First I went to the devices tab in IR and found the Kenwood ( setup code 1313 ) then I scrolled down and found the key I had mapped "listen mode" to. The EFC for this function was 242*(Use Hex). So then I went to the Key Move page and added a new Key move. I selected the device as CBL and picked the Page Up key. I then selected to Kenwood device ( 1313) and entered 242 as the key. Then I uploaded this to my remove...and it didn't work.

I then tried everything else I could think of. I entered the EFC in hex F404 ( for 242 ), I tried mapping it to buttons other than Page Up but nothing worked.

So then I tried to reverse engineer this by using the Setup-9-9-4 way of re-assigning keys and it worked. Then when I downloaded from the remote I went back Key Moves page to check out then entry. The EFC for the move was listed as 147 ( hex $4c) which makes no sense to me. I can't even find a function in KM for the Kenwood Vr407 with that value.

Does anyone have any idea what could be going on here? I would really appreciate the help.

PS. I tried just moving a key within one device as well. I moved the power button on the CBL device to the Page Up key also on the CBL device and it didn't work either. It did work though when I did it manually through setup 9-9-4. Once again when I re-downloaded the key move and viewed it in IR the EFC value didn't match the one on the devices page for the power button.

When IR indicates "EFC = 242* (Use Hex)", it literally means you have to look at the hex value next to it, not the EFC. Usually this is because its a multibyte value, not just the single EFC code.

To enter a keymove using the hex value, you would have to select "Use Hex" at the bottom of the keymove dialog box, then enter the (probably multibyte) value with spaces separating the byes.

Other question: What remote are you using?

Some of the new remotes don't store Keymoves in the same format as IR (and the old remotes) use. In this case your choices are to use the 994 method, or you can start using the extender for that remote, as these usually use the "original" keymove storage format.

It sounds like you want to copy functions from RCVR mode to CBL mode, if this is the case, the Atlas remote (just like the 6131 remote) uses a different format for "key copies" than for regular keymoves.

If you're still using IR 5.15, your best bet is to do the key copies on the remote itself, eg:

[SETUP **] 994 ** RCVR from-key CBL to-key **

If you're using IR 6.00 there is a new drop-down that let's you program key copies.

That is exactly what I was trying to do and its good to know it was a little more complicated than I thought. I will try using the newer version of IR.

I tried it using the new key assignment under Key Moves and it worked perfectly. Thanks again Robman.

Just for future reference, the Atlas DVR and the URC-6131 (unextended) use a new type of keymove format that is not supported in versions of IR prior to v6.00. KM and RM can generate the correct keymoves for you, or you can make them on the remote itself (994 method). You can enter them in older IR versions if you know the magic incantations required, but IR v6.00 makes it so much easier:

The extender is an option for the URC-6131, but not for the Atlas DVR. While an extender could be ported, it only has a 1K EEPROM, which is too small to support a practical extender.
