JP1 Remotes

Ok, so I downloaded the IR and the RDF's and got my nice, shiny cable. I downloaded from the remote and modified the one plain macro that I put on the power button for the HT mode to turn on the devices. I removed the DVD player button and the POWER button from the macro since I don't use it every time I turn on the system.

I would like to accomplish a few things and really just need someone to point me in the right direction. I don't know the keywords to search for to accomplish what I want, so if someone could start me off I'm sure I can take it from there.

1. Make the macro's fast... I think that means I need another type of macro setup from what I have read. Example, right now it takes about 1 sec to turn on both the TV and the Reciever from the macro mentioned above. I'd like those really quick, like within milsecs of eachother.

2. I want to make the device buttons do what others have said they have done as in when you press the DVD player button it would turn on the devices needed (if they were not already on) and switch the TV and reciever to the proper modes. What type of setup, macros, etc do I need to look in to so I can set this up? I suppose I use desecrete key presses to turn on the items, which I also guess I need to find for my devices? Or does the remote somehow know if the deivces are on (I'm guessing no).

3. Last question... let's say I remap these devices keys as above... if I do, and for some reason one of them doesn't turn on when I use the macropress on those keys, doesn't that mess up the whole sequence? Or I guess not since I could just press it again if I was using descrete codes and they would all try to "turn on" again, but all the others would already be on and thus cause no problems?

It's usually best to learn to walk before you run, but since you asked...

What you probably want to look into is one of the 9960 Extender files. It's the only way to get faster macros, macros on the device buttons, ToadTog to track the "state" of the devices, etc.

One note: extenders can be intimidating until you understand the basics of JP1, so make sure you read all the beginner's documentation (the first 3 items here).

Haha.. but what would be the fun of actually "reading the manual" ?!!

Thanks for the info, I will definitely read all I can. I find I usually learn better by diving right in, which I why I loved getting the cable and IR installed to mess with the 9960 right away. Loving it!
