JP1 Remotes

I grabbed an RCU-811 and popped it open, I posted the pics here
I don't think it's a URC since I don't see a URC model #.
There's no JP1 but there is a communications link of some kind, if you check out the pics you'll see these connections:
"SIO" (serial I/O?), ENABLE (write/read enable?), OV or 0V (ground?) and +V (+5V? or Vcc?).
There's also an ATMEL 316 on the board.

This looks like a great replacement for the 810 but only if we can JP1 it. My 810 is dying and it's hard to find a replacement.

Have a look at the pics, I hope to do some testing soon.

I can tell you for a fact that the RCU811 is not a UEI remote. This question has been raised several times, and I asked UEI directly about it.

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I'll just have to look at other options to replace my failing RCU-810. If only I had more time to try to figure out how to commuicate with the RCU-811

ps. I'm willing to help on the RCU-811 but I can't take the lead on it... any takers? Or is that beyond the scope of this forum?

If the remote is not a UEI remote, you're going to have to do EVERYTHING from scratch. Ie, you'll need to invent a new interface, reverse engineer any data that you find, write new programs to read & write that data, new programs to format upgrades, etc. And that's all assuming the remote is even upgradeable, which I highly doubt.

ah.... right. Sounds like a lot of work. Sorry Robman, I guess it was a rhetorical question. Looks like the 811 is going back to Radio Shack.
I've got a beed on cheep 810's. I really like my 810 and how well it's 'tuned' to do everything I want. Thanks to JP1 I can easily program the new 810 I get.

Returning the RCU811 is a good idea, especially if you know where to get some more RCU810s.

This might be another topic but have you any good ideas on repairing remote buttons? I've tried the conductive paint trick on my RCU810, it works for a while but eventually the paint flakes off and cause shorts and make the remote go nuts (this happens usually after only a few day's use). The conductive paint methog I'm referring to is where you use the automotive defrost line repair paint on the buttoms, I used "Quick Grid" made by "Permatex", available at Canadian Tire in Canada for around $10CDN.

Looking at the pictures, it appears that the line is SIG, and supplies the signal for an RF transmitter module.
