HELP!? ShowStopper remote quit working

I bought a USB cable from filebug. I accidentally plugged it in backwards (their cable should point to the top, not the bottom like the rest of the interfaces :( ). I realized my mistake and turned it around. When I tried to talk to the remote, I got a communication failure. I tried a download (never an upload), but that didn't work either.

I went back to my channel surfing and now I can't control my ShowStopper - the VCR button still controls my VCR correctly, so I know the remote is still functional. However, it's not controlling my ShowStopper. If I try to read the code for the Hard Disk Recorder button, I get 1023. I tried taking out the batteries. I tried 'code set' 9-8-1. Nothing has gotten it working. The funny thing is that some of the buttons (numbers, channel up/down, volume, ff, rew, etc.) will cause the led to light (so the remote is transmitting), but they aren't controlling the ShowStopper. Additionally, some buttons that should work (instant replay, quick skip, jump, display, etc) won't cause the LED to light.

I also tried setting the code for the 'Hard Disk Recorder' button to 0616, but the remote wouldn't accept it.

Does anybody know how I can get my remote back to normal without the cable (since I can't seem to get it working).

Ok, got it working - sort of. I now have the USB cable working, so it's just a matter of finding and uploading the right file to the remote - yeah!

The problem turned out to be that the batteries were in the remote. Once I removed the batteries, the USB cable began communicating with the remote. (but only with v4.x - v5.x would pass the test, but wouldn't download)

Just FYI, when you do a 981 reset on a ReplayTV remote, you will wipe out the Replay code, which is added as an upgrade.

In fact, you confirmed that you had at least un-assigned the code from the Replay device button when you read back the Pioneer audio code 1023 from that device button.

For non JP1 users, if the code had simply become unassigned but was still active in the upgrade memory, to re-assign the code you would do this...

1) Press Replay device button (HDR)
2) Press and hold SETUP (CODE SET), 2 flashes
3) Type 987, 2 flashes
4) Type 0001, flashes

The standard Replay codes, ie, 0614 and 0616, are not present in this remote.
