URC-6820 Zapper+ Confusion

Please help this newbie. OFA seem to have reused "6820" for the new-ish 3-device Zapper+ ( see: http://www.oneforall.com/remotes/urc682 ... -plus.html )

I have found an RDF for 10631063 (URC-6820_8820_10820).rdf in RemoteMaster.v2.03build14, but this obviously refers to the 2006 6-device remote. There's another called URC-6820N from 2009 listed in RemoteChart_C.xls, but I don't know whether the "N" means anything.

I have put together Tommy Tyler's FTDI TTL-232R Serial Converter Cable version (with recommended Mouser parts) of a JP1.2/3 Interface and I have verified that it works fine (using latest RMIR and FTDI driver 2.12.14) with my older URC-7525 and URC-3720, but will not even do a raw download without giving an error.

Any pointers to internal information about the Zapper+, especially how I might connect to it, would be most welcome.

Thanks, Trom

The old 6820s were made in two series. Both use the Motorola HCS08 microprocessor. The N stands for "new", I suppose. Anyway, neither has been made in years. These are JP1.2 remotes.

Probably the URC-6820 you have is either a JP1.4 (Samsung S3F80) or JP2 (Maxim MAXQ610) remote. Either type should work with the FTDI chip, so I'm a little surprised that a Raw Download hasn't worked. Let's try a second method to find out more about the remote. Download JP2Sniffer (only available as a Windows program), and try first downloading using the HighLevel tab, and if that doesn't seem to work, use the Low Level tab. Highlight and delete any text in the larger box, and follow the instructions in the readme. Copy whatever text shows up in the larger box, and post it here.

URC-6820Z - JP2Sniffer

Thank you 3FG, sorry for not replying sooner.

I have programmed the Zapper+ for a friend, who is now using it. I’m told that, ”the software of the URC-6820 has a 'bug' when it comes to program Audio Extra functions” (quote from OFA support) and I had to reprogramme my URC 6440 and then use learning on the Zapper+ (let’s call it a URC-6820Z for disambiguation) to get it to work. It does, but I would like to back-up the configuration and investigate a bit more, hence my query.

Now, to the JP2Sniffer results. I seem to get “Read operation timed out” at High level, so I switched to Low level tab and copied the result. After removing duplicated blocks and separating by what I assume are the commands I have :

Code: Select all

00 02 51 53 00 02 00 02

00 02 50 52 00 06 00 C1 06 55 00 94 00 06 01 55 00 00 2C 7E 00 2E 00 E6 BA 00 00 00 4C 33 35 35 38 30 34 FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF 00 FF 00 FF 00 FF FF FF FF FF FF 00 FF 00 FF FF FF FF FF FF 00 80 00 04 4A 00 06 01 FF FF 00 01 06 00 02 03 01 00

00 02 51 53 00 02 00 02

00 02 50 52 00 06 00 C1 06 55 00 94 00 06 01 55 00 00 2C 7E 00 2E 00 E6 BA 00 00 00 4C 33 35 35 38 30 34 FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF 00 FF 00 FF 00 FF FF FF FF FF FF 00 FF 00 FF FF FF FF FF FF 00 80 00 04 4A
00 02 52 50
I forgot to look if the Processor type had changed from “unknown” – I don’t know if this normally gets detected. My friend is just 3 km away, so I can go back anytime to run further tests.

Thanks again, Trom.

There is now a development version of RMIR that supports the URC-6820Z Zapper+, please see this post for details. It has passed preliminary testing with my Zapper+ but I would welcome reports of any further testing.
