JP1 Remotes

Hi everybody,

I am a tenant in rented accommodation with a Daewoo DLT37C3FTB. The remote control for this is missing, so I currently use my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone with a universal remote app to control the TV.

Unfortunately, the input button only cycles between DTV and Component inputs, missing out the HDMI input.

I would like to know if there is a way of converting the code given there:
14H 7CH CASTEL HDMI

to a format useable by the above app on my phone. There is little documentation for this app (I have contacted the developer and am awaiting a reply), however it requests for codes in HEX or DEC form.

As an engineering student, I am happy to code a translator myself or complete some of the other reading required - I just need a pointer in the right direction.

My limited understanding is that there is a protocol (PRONTO?) that I must follow to convert that code into HEX. Where can I find this protocol and do I require anything else?

When asking for protocols in Hex, they typically mean pronto hex. Here is the pronto hex for the function you are requesting, or did you need the prontohex for all the keys in the remote?

Thank you for your prompt reply! That code hasn't worked, so I don't know whether it's not a function on my TV or whether it's not the right format.

In the given example there are only 11 groups in the string, in yours there are 42.

Could you also give me the code for say volume up, so I can check the format? How have you generated it from the information I gave?

Here is a crazy question for you, is the HDMI component turned on? If not it is never going to stop there.

Could you show me the type of hex they show in the example, maybe someone here can recognize the format

Both your volume up and volume down keys work perfectly.

The HDMI input is definitely on, and still not accessible via remote. If you could tell me how to generate the HEX then I will try some of the other commands!

When researching this problem, it sounds like many of these Castel Daewoo TVs have a Hotel Lock that can turn off various inputs. To get to those you need to know the password.

I finally got this to work by using the input labelled as 'DTV/PC' which cycles through TV, PC and HDMI inputs.

For some reason the codes with CASTEL as a label in front don't work - perhaps they were added for subsequent models.

Hi.. I am using a Daewoo DLM 32C5 and have a remote which has now broken.

I need to know how to find the appropriate alternative universal remote which can be used to access the HDMI and PC inputs (which i used to get through multimedia button)...

I do not understand the codes and need to quickly find a replacement.. Can you help with any specifications that i should look for while choosing a universal remote?

I have tried the following universal remotes with no success:
- One for All URC 7110
- Sky TV Remote

The linking factor between these is that they just require a four digit code to look up a predefined set of commands, which does not included the HDMI/PC input!

The only way I can see would be to get a remote control that allows you to input custom IR codes, other forum members may be more use than me here as I just used my Samsung Galaxy S4 with the Galaxy Universal Remote app. Obviously this forum is devoted to JP1 so there may be some bias in their answers!

Once you have one, do not worry too much about understanding the code, provided it is a remote that allows you to input HEX codes, many people will be able to help.

Daewoo were more than useless for me, quoting over £70 in the UK to replace the standard remote. It seems no commercially available universal remotes are fully featured either!

If I had any choice, it would be a new TV set!!!

We can't offer you any guarantees because we don't know what signals Daewoo is using in that model. Daewoo uses lots of different protocols, so that one is going to be tough to figure out.

That model is not in the Harmony database, and we just have generic daewoos.

I see that you are in India, so I don't even know what is available locally there.

lewisgf is recommending a remote that uses pronto hex, because that is what he has experience with.

We tend to favor the inexpensive JP1 remotes, where we can work with EFCs.

The RCA RCrp05b is a favorite over here, because it is very inexpensive, has a large library of built in codes and takes 5 digit EFCs and learning which make it a powerful remote, but if there isn't a partially working code, then we can't help you, and we don't know what the base code is, because Daewoo isn't faithful to any one code, so there might not be a partially working code to start from. If there is no partially working code, and your remote doesn't send ANY signal, then you may be out of luck.

Thanks Lewis... I have been looking around based on your inputs and was wondering if this would work..

I checked and One for All URC 7140/7960 etc and few others are available in the market and quite reasonable. These seem to have a learning function as well....

I would have access to galaxy S4 temporarily and would install the Galaxy Universal Remote app and use that to train my One for all remote on the PC/HDMI input... (I guess all other required functions would work using the direct code entry)

Do you think this makes sense?? I was just thinking why you did not try this (or you probably did) with your URC 7110?

I bought a URC 7960 which i am assuming is a JP1 remote. All basic functions work on the direct code 1909.

I am trying to find the five digit EFC to get the TV to HDMI mode. Can you help me find a way to identify various EFCs which I can explore?

You need to stick to one thread. When you post all over the place its hard for us to follow.

Well, TV 1909 is a combo protocol, so we have to take two bytes into account when calculating candidate EFCs. Based on Vicky's info above, the HDMI EFC may be 44036. If this doesn't work, lets try to make sure that the procedure is working for you by trying 44050, which is Vol down.

If that works, but 44036 doesn't send HDMI, search for the EFC by testing 44032 to 44287.

44036 didn't work but 44048 did initiate the HDMI. Thanks for sharing this. Sorry if I had confused by posting this on wrong thread but I thought since the problem faced by lewis was the same (Daewoo TV HDMI) I guessed it made sense to post here.
