JP1 Remotes

I ordered a RCA RCRP05BR and a USB to TTL cable (which I'll convert to a 2x3 JP1.3 connector). I plan to use RM-IR and follow the steps in "JP1 - Just how easy is it?".

But I read elsewhere where Vickyg2003 recommended to save the contents of a remote by using raw, as a normal save could lose data or something like that. I didn't see an option in the "JP1 - Just how easy is it?" tutorial to save the contents of a remote as raw.

How do I save the contents of the RCRP05BR as raw using RM-IR? Is there a built-in option to do that?

You can answer this question yourself by starting up RMIR and looking at each menu item. Hint: look at the menu item Remote.

The RCRP05B will emerge from its packaging with the contents of memory the same as if the remote had just undergone a 981 reset. Remotes supplied by a cable company sometimes have an upgrade installed, and it is useful to save the RMIR file from those before doing any changes.

The sort of thing Vicky is referring to would only happen to a remote that has been extensively customized.

Actually Raptor, I was talking about doing a raw download from a remote with an "immature rdf" At the time I wrote that new cable remotes were being added all the time. Now its few and far between. When the RDF's are immature, there may be a feature we don't fully understand.

So if you get an RDF from the development area, its best to keep a copy of the raw download.

This is getting to be a long post for the iphone.
