Any new remotes recommendations?

Hi guys, i have an old parallel jp1 cable that i built way long ago for a couple of URC-8810 remote that i have had for about 6 years now, but the keys have starter to show sign of wear.
I have to press really hard for the volume up/down keys to respond, I have disassembled the remotes, cleaned the keypads, but still no change. So I figured I might as well buy new ones.

Since I have been out of here for a while I wanted to ask:

a) Are there any "recent" JP1 compatible remotes out there?
b) Seeking for options on the web I came across with the Atlas DVR M1056 Universal Remote. Is this remote compatible with my old parallel JP1 cable ? or do i need to build a new one from scratch?

Regards

Most newer remotes are JP1.x and need a serial cable. I bought the USB cable, plus an adapter that still lets me program my older JP1-based 8810 (bedroom) and (recently retired due to button issues) 8910. I currently use a RCA RCRP05B.

See this post on the guide to identifying atlases
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8508

The only Atlas that is compatible with your cable is the 1054. Sess settings on the left hand side of the bulge, where the other reports say DAY. I didn't have much luck with our tools on this remote. I was updating someone elses remote, and it never worked again. I had to give them a 1055 JP1.3.

Tranx has posted a comparisson of some of the newer JP1.x remotes that hels using in the UK.

Think what you need is to have a look at mdavej's JP1 Remotes Chart

.

Does anyone know if this particular remote has JP1 capabilities? :

I saw the 1056 in the spreadsheet, but i dont know about branded remotes.

Generally if it has pins and the model number matches what's in the chart, you're good to go. Yours should be the same 1056 as is in the chart. You can confirm by doing a signature blink back.

Great thank you mdavej!.

By the way guys, the spreadsheet that most of us use to find remotes that are JP1 compatible is quite old.
Are there any new remotes out there that are JP1 compatible that may be in retail stores right now? maybe manufactured in the past 1 or 2 years?
Because its harder and more expensive to get my hands on those old remotes.

Thanks in advance

The chart is due for an update, but not much has changed. You can get and RCA RCRP05B or BR almost anywhere, and it's already on the chart. Here are a few other new ones I've been meaning to add:

URC-7960 (OARI06G)
ARRS05G (need to add your own pins)
URC-3920

and (shudder) ... URC-3740

There are several new versions of cable remotes already on the chart that just have a different suffix and interface. Plus a few that are almost ready, like the Xsight Plus (URC-8610 or ARRX12G).

None of these are JP1 EEPROM of course since those haven't been manufactured for many years. So there aren't any new ones and never will be again. To keep using JP1, you'll have to get a JP1.3 cable and remote at the very least.

I think it's time to retire the list file anyway and use the Remote Chart on the wiki.

If anyone has more to add, please post them.
