URC-7960 Problem

I plugged my URC-7960 into RMIR 2.02 using the Tiao JP1.2/3 cable, which I know is working properly, as I used it ages ago to programme my old Kameleon remote.
Unfortunately, I could not get a good physical connection on the 7960 (the 6 hole plug does not feel as though it is making good contact with the prongs) and it would not talk to RMIR. Worse, the remote has now stopped working altogether, and all that happens is that the blue centre ring flashes in a regular pattern. No other keys are responding at all. I have tried leaving the batteries out, but nothing will restore regular function. Could the cable have damaged it, and is there any way of doing a hard reset, or will I have to send it back for repair?
