Does anyone have any experience with the new UEI Titan remotes?

See: http://www.uei.com/images/uploaded_images/Titan.pdf

These look like fairly nice remotes (5 device and with keys to support cable company PVRs although they are missing the "skip forward" key - I guess the cable companies don't like people skipping over recorded commercials).

I see they are now available from: http://www.emtcompany.com/titan-iptv-20 ... 01848.html

Does anyone know if they are JP1.x compliant? (I did a search for "titan" on the JP1 forums but didn't turn up anything useful...) Any support for these yet?

... Tony

In the lower section there is a ">|" button. That could probably be set up as 30-sec skip, if it isn't pre-programmed. My RCA RCRP05B uses that key for that purpose out-of-the-box.

Looks like it's also set up to control TV-as-phone. It even has # and * keys!

Dish remotes have those keys. They're also good for entering text.

I take it from the crickets that no one has a Titan yet. But Since they've been on the UEI web site for a long time, my guess is they're JP1.3.

There are a number of options regarding adding a SKIP FWD key.

1) If you don't need the LIVE button for your device, this button is opposite the REPLAY button and is therefore a logical candidate based on it's position.

2) If you don't need the DAY +/- or PAGE +/- buttons, you could use the pair of them for REPLAY and SKIP FWD

3) You could use the * and # buttons

4) You could use the F1/F2 buttons.

If you are up to it, using an extender provides a nice solution. This is how I normally set things up on a remote without a "skip forward" key:

1. A short key press on the ">> - fast forward" to "skip forward".

2. A long key press on the ">>" does the "fast forward".

3. A short key press on the "<< - rewind or reverse" to "skip back".

4. A long key press on the "<<" does the rewind or reverse.

5. Page up does the "next chapter" (DVD) / "next file" (for DLNA devices).

6. Page down does the "previous chapter" (DVD) / "previous file" (for DLNA devices).

7. This leaves the original "skip back" key available to be used as a "replay" function if the target device supports it (many DLNA devices are like this)

Even with the UEI OARP05S remote (which does have a skip forward key), I normally use the extender to setup as above (keeps all my remotes working more or less the same). And the "->|" becomes available to display the options menu on a DLNA device (which on Sony equipment appears as a right-hand side-bar).

Unfortunately, on the Titan, the "Next" / "Prev" functions have been silk-screened with the buttons for "Day +" / "Day -". This is very incompatible with the buttons on the Comcast 1067 remotes (which are amongst my favorites). "Day +" / "Day -" on the Comcast 1067s shares the "B - blue" / "C - red" keys and adding the Next / Prev to this as well would create problems with some Sony equipment - things would just become too confusing.
