JP1 Remotes

I have a simple remote used to turn on/off/dim some track lighting.
It has two buttons, one for each set of lighting.
The learning remote I have learns the signals just fine and operates the lights but I want the info in my 6130.

The learned signals tab in RMIR just lists the size as 20 and the freq. as 38095. Protocol is **None** and the is no OBC or Hex.

Is there any chance of using this sketchy info to program my 6131?

Sure, that's what we do here. Its much, much easier for us to work from an IR file instead of dealing with the extracted information.

Also what is the brand of the track lighting, and have you looked in the file section to see if we already have it?

The IR switch didn't come with the track lighting. It was intended to be mounted inside a switch box. No idea what the brand is.

I looked through the file section and didn't see anything as simple as this one but there aren't that many there. Maybe I'll just try all that look like they might work and see what happens.

Better yet, post your IR file (or RMIR file) for us to look at.

Try this upgrade. The buttons that you learned are on the CH +/- buttons.

Then I went to the devices tab in RMIR, clicked the new button, clicked import and got this error message: "The upgrade you are trying to import is not valid. It does not contain a value for Remote.name"

The code snippets were meant for IR.exe I don't know how to paste them into RMIR, so I created an IR file then imported that into RMIR.

It can be done with RMIR. From the protocol tab, click new, then copy the protocol upgrade to clipboard and then click the Import Protocol Upgrade. Then from the devices tab click New and choose the setup code and device type desired. From the protocol dropdown, scroll all the way to the end of the list and choose manual settings: 01 FF. Then from the functions tab, type 7F in the hex column on the channel up row and BF in the hex column on the channel down row. Next on the buttons tab, click the auto assign button. OK out and upload to the remote.

That's certainly not as easy as with IR. It seems to me that there was a disscussion about the Import button on the device sheet in RMIR where greg told us what it was, and then talked about maybe removing it. For the life of me I can't recall what that import button was for.

OK, I followed that step by step and can confirm that you can import the protocol upgrade.

So I assume there's no way to import the device upgrade part? That's why you're saying to manually enter each button's code?

Bottom line, it's a hell of a lot easier to just paste the two codes into IR and then import the IR file into RMIR, if you want to use RMIR.

YES! It worked. No more OEM remotes cluttering up the table.

I found another way to do it. You need to fire up the old fashioned RM (not RMIR) because that's the only way to get access to the Menu bar. Then select Advanced, then Import Raw Upgrade.

From there you cut and paste the data between the header lines of the device upgrade (ie, just "FF 00 21 7F BF"), then cut and paste the data between the headers for the protocol upgrade. Because the protocol id is $01FF, you will need to check the Protocol > FF box. Select Cable as the mode (as that's what is specified in the device upgrade header. Finally, save the RMDU file somewhere. Now, go back to RMIR and add the RMDU file as an upgrade.

There is probably a way to do this using the Import button on the Device Upgrade tab in RMIR but I haven't figured out how to use it yet.

Bottom line, it's a hell of a lot easier to just paste the two codes into IR and then import the IR file into RMIR, if you want to use RMIR.

That assumes you're know what IR is and you know how to use it.

I think I'll stay ignorant and firmly in the Beginners section.

IR.exe is the main program that we use to communicate with our remotes. RMIR is being developed as a replacement but it's not all the way there yet (as you can see from the posts above, some things are a lot harder to do in RMIR)

But regardless, did you try the RMIR file that I posted for you?

The Import button is used to load a RM- or KM- formatted device upgrade from the clipboard, rather than from a file. The upgrade text should be in the clipboard before you press the Import button.

The only difference between the Load and Import buttons is where the text comes from. For the Load button it comes from a file, for the Import button it comes from the clipboard.

I'll see what I can do to enable importing an IR-formatted device upgrade and protocol upgrade. Shouldn't be too much work, there's already code in place for most of it.
