Replace URC 9800 (RF Remote)

I have been using an older URC 9800 one for all. As well as being a JP1 remote, it also has an RF box and can convert IR signal to work with RF.

Last year I bought an LCD TV that interferes with my IR signals and luckily the RF capability solves that problem nicely.

Well in February, my basement flooded and the remote was damaged. The insurance company has offered me $150 to replace it. At first I was happy with that...

But there don't seem to be many RF remotes available (JP1 or otherwise). The Logitech Harmony 900 looks like the closest alternative, but at $399.99 it's too pricey for me.

Does anyone have a suggestion for me? I do like JP1, but I am not bound to it... I have several JP1 remotes (non-RF), and I still have the factory remotes for the TV and other components, so a learning remote would work.

Help!

Apparently there is a NextGen thingy that goes in the battery compartment of any remote and turns it into an RF remote.

Also check the Market place section here.

a couple of weeks ago someone was selling two 15-2117's with the RF boxes in the marketplace section. Don't know if they sold them yet.

I do use the nexgen thingie and it works reasonably well. It's not liking my DirecTV receivers right now, but am unsure if it's my programming of the remote or something with the IR repeater. Amazon has them. You replace one battery with their transmitter/battery combo.

You can buy an optional 6-LED emitter for it.

hey that nextgen thing looks very cool!

I think the radio Shack remotes are just a tad old school for me... my old 9800 was great, but it drained batteries like nobody's business and the fact that I had to re-purpose a home theater button to be a guide button was always a pain... I think I need something with a button labelled guide!

I found a 9910 on ebay and I placed a bid, so if I can get that then I think it will be okay.

If you want remotes without learning memory limitations, and cheap try URC RF10 & RF20. Both can be taught a command to every key in every device and never run out of memory. Both are RF, Rf performance way better then the UEI RF remotes.

If you want menu driven RF remote, check out the URC mx-450.

I ended up getting a 9910 for $11.50. fabulous deal... I also got outbid on another that went for $35 with the RF box (I have an extra one of those).

So hopefully it works out... any experiences or stuff to watch out for with the 9910?
