Comcast JP1.3 DVR remote needs Samsung BD-P1500/1600 codes

Post by psron »

I have the silver Comcast 3-device DVR remote with Red OK/Select button. (it says its a JP1.3 remote)

I have 2 Samsung Blu-Ray players - BD-P1500 and BD-P1600

On the BD-P1500, the code 20199 will operate some functions, like 4-way - but not the OK/Select... so I can't really do anything but move around in the disc menu.

I'd also like to have codes for the player setup menu

The OK/Select button is being hijacked by the Channel Lock capability. So when you push OK, notice that the cable device button blinks--that means the the OK signal appropriate to the cable box is actually being sent. The Comcast instructions say that Channel Lock doesn't affect the AUX mode, but if fact it does with these remotes. The CH+/- and digit keys are also Channel Locked.

You can get around this by turning off Channel Lock, but that also affects the TV mode, and you may not want that. A second way is to use keymoves to assign the function of you rchoice to any key. So, assuming that you have 20199 setup on AUX, and you are in AUX mode:

Press setup until it blinks twice.
Enter 994
press setup briefly
enter 00211
press Setup/OK

You should be rewarded with two blinks, meaning that the 211 code was accepted.
Here's a list of codes, compiled by mdavej and available here in the File Section. Prepend 00 to every code.

Great! Now, what about the 1600? It's new and we don't seem to have any information about the IR codes. Does it also respond to 20199 on any keys? Or perhaps responds to all of the same keys? Do you see a way to set up the 1600 so that it uses a different set of function codes-- something like IR channels A and B?

Need more guidance on programming the keys

Post by ski2xs »

The info on this site is awesome. Thank you! I am so glad I found it. I just bought the Samsung BD-P1600 too and trying to program my Comcast 3 in 1 with On Demand Remote. So far the steps up to the File section box with the codes have worked. So to answer 3FG's question, the 20199 code works.

But I wasn't sure what to do after that. You say Prepend 00 to the codes. I am new at this stuff, so I could use more detailed instructions from this point on. I wasn't sure if I should type in the number in the left hand column followed by 00 and then the code on the right and just keep going in that manner. Do I need to press set up for every step? I appreciate any further info from the step where the 211 code is accepted. Thanks again. You guys are genuises!

You don't necessarily need to do anything. The 3 digit EFC codes listed above are very similar to the EFCs in 20199--identical for digit keys, arrow keys, etc. So first try every function you want and see if it already works.

Now, suppose you want to use the function "title menu". The Comcast remote doesn't have a button labeled "title menu". So is there a Comcast button that will bring up the title menu? You can figure that out by looking above to see that the EFC for "title search" is 242 (00242 on your remote). Next use the Lookup Tool (link at the top of this page) and choose Device Search, select Video, and enter setup id 0199 (drop the leading 2. The Comcast remote recognizes the leading 2 to mean video, but lots of other remotes accept only the last 4 digits.) Choose Comcast 1067BX3, and click Search.

Now click on the EFCs link at the right of the page. That gives you a list of button names and EFCs. You'll see that EFC 242 is assigned to Guide in 0199. So, using 20199 in the Comcast remote, press Guide to bring up the title menu.

If you want a function which is not listed in the Lookup Tool, or you would like to assign it to a different button, use the 994 procedure above. Just remember to change the 3 digit EFCs into 5 digits by typing 00 just before the 3 digits. Replace 00211 with the desired EFC, and instead of pressing OK/Select, press the key you want to assign the EFC to.

Do all 5 steps for each key to be assigned.

Thank you for the codes listed above. FYI - The codes listed will also work for a Samsung BD-D5500 BlueRay player.

However the TOOLS button is not on the list. I'm not sure if the Samsung PD-1500/1600 have a TOOLS button on that remote.

However I need the code for the TOOLS button for the Samsung BD-5500 Blueray player in order to delete/remove downloaded apps from Samsung Smarthub. Please see example below. Missing the 00xxx code for the TOOLS button. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you folks setting up this wonderful forum.

Press setup until it blinks twice.
Enter 994
press setup briefly
enter 00xxx
press TOOLS Button

I didn't see these functions in the above list.

178 internet
174 fullscreen
176 tools
177 netflix
Remember to provide feedback to let us know how the problem was solved and share your upgrades.

Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

Slow foward resets BD-D5500

Post by rickgtx »

Just a word of caution to any Samsung BD-D5500 Blu-Ray owners. The slow foward resets the Blu-Ray player settings. You need re-download your apps, redo netflix signon, and redo any special language or video setup.

The AK59-00123A remote does not have a slow button, but I added the commands anyway to my URC-8910. The slow forward command resets the Blu-Ray plaer immediately - no chance to stop it. I tried twice.

Good news is you can add the 178 internet, 174 fullscreen, 176 tools, and 177 netflix to get those functions.
