Need upgrade protocol for TiVo on URC-10820

Keymap Master Ver 9.15 displays the following in the Protocol Code section when building an upgrade for TiVo Series 2 and HD models.

[Upgrade Protocol 0 = 00 41 (HCS08) TiVo (Advanced) (KM v9.15)
Code not available for this Remote...
End]

Has anyone perhaps developed an Upgrade Protocol for TiVos on the 10820?
If so, please post to maybe save me the trouble of making my first effort to build one with Protocol Builder.

Hi,
There's an HD Tivo upgrade here:

You'll need RM to open it (set it to choose both KM and RM upgrades).
Follow the instructions here to setup the program: LINK [url]

Choose 10820 as the remote and it'll show you the layout on the layout tab.

You don't need the "advanced" protocol, just switch over to the "official" version and your upgrade will work. Plus, you won't need a protocol upgrade because the Tivo protocol is already in the URC-10820.

I revised my Device Upgrades to use the TiVo official protocol and both my Series 2 and HD are responding OK.

The urc-10820 has preset codes for tivo remote addresses 1-4, they're:

Address #1- SAT 1443 or PVR 0740
Address #2- SAT 1444 or PVR 0745
Address #3- SAT 1538 or PVR 1239
Address #4- SAT 1539 or PVR 1240

How can you tell when this is going to be okay, and when this is going to be a problem? Its my understanding that when a custom protocol is used, it does not necessarily use the same EFC's as the official protocol. Obviously in this case it does. Is it just everybodys experience with TIVO that had this solved so fast, or is there something that should have made this obvious?

To follow on Vicky, in reading the OP, it looked like the issue was that KM 9.15 didn't know about the 10820 remote, so couldn't generate the upgrade, much less the protocol.

The so-called "advanced" Tivo protocol is really just the protocol that I wrote back when UEI didn't have a good Tivo protocol (theirs was 2-byte back then). I don't see any reason to support the "advanced" protocol now that UEI has converted theirs to a 1-byte format, and I didn't name it "advanced" either (as this tends to imply that it's better and can do more than the official version).

When I get a chance, I should probably go through all the Tivo upgrades and update any that use the "advanced" version and then see if we can get it deleted from KM and RM.

KM does know about the 10820 remote, but does not have an HCS08 version of the Tivo (Advanced) protocol. As Rob has stated, no one has written a version of that protocol because it is no longer needed. The official version built into the 10820 can do everything that the old protocol can do, and is supported in KM (RM too).

Do you think we might still need to support existing upgrades even if you eliminate it from all posted files? I'l have to test this, but I think I can have KM change the protocol when the upgrade is loaded. In this case, the fixed data and function hex values are all compatible, so just changing the protocol should work. I'm not sure if Greg can make RM do this, though.

The urc-10820N / urc-8820N do not support these codes.

Anyone have a suggestion on how to use the urc-x820N remotes to control multiple TiVos in the same room without having to load seperate device upgrades for each TiVo?

I would love to use the TiVo dynamic unit select method, but that doesn't work on these remotes either.

I have been thinking of buying one of the new verisions, If you want I can trade the old urc-10820 for your 10820N or whichever one you have? My 10820 have never been put into daily use, so its almost brand new. I will include the manual, and I would have to have the manual for the 10820N, thats what I use, not the remotes themselves.

I would use the manual too, but I haven't figured out how to get it to send codes to my devices.

I would be happy to make the exchange and I do have the manual.
