Chasing down built in setup codes is only really something that a non-JP1 user needs to do. Now that you have your JP1 cable working, you can load upgrades that have all the buttons included and properly labeled. I forget if any of your JP1 remotes have learning, but if they do, you can use that to decode any buttons that may be missing by learning them from your OEM remotes. Also, if you do find an upgrade here that you think is missing buttons, you may find those buttons included with upgrades for similar models from the same brand.

Thank you.
Another source has been the extra buttons included on the different URCs, themselves. But if I have a working protocol, it is not necessary to use a learning feature. Remember, I have an IR detector. I can edit in that info in your RMDU program (and have done so successfully).

The "working protocol" vs "learning" statement isn't true. The only reason a JP1 user uses the learning feature of his remote is to capture the code details. So, even if they have a working upgrade, if it's missing a button and they don't know what the OBC for that button is, and they have the OEM remote with that button, they can learn the button from the OEM remote, see what the OBC is, then add that to their upgrade.
I don't know what an "IR detector" is, but assuming that it's a device that can learn signals and show you the protocol, device codes and OBCs then yes, that would do instead.

Yes, that is what it is.

I downloaded an RMDU file for my Sony boomboxes. (It works fine.) But three of its keys that were not on my boxes, piqued my curiosity.
Does anyone have details about the following buttons?
- Single Opera,
- Flash &
- Disc Mode
The model nos. of the devices or their remotes might be helpful, otherwise.

Best I can suggest is to try them and see what they do (if anything). If your model doesn't have that functionality, then no big deal, just ignore them, but if it does, you've got something extra to play with.
I have no idea about "Single Opera", maybe it's a sound mode, but Flash probably selects a USB flash drive and Disc Mode probably selects CD mode.

Is there a better sub-forum to pose this question?

You're fine right here, no need to spread your questions all over the place.
Setting Up JP1 Apps...?

By downloading random PDF's from this page
https://www.sony.com/electronics/suppor ... els-num=30
I found in one manual
Enjoying sound effects (LOOP/FLASH)
You can repeat part of a CD (LOOP) and
can 'flash' the CD sound (FLASH) during playback.
So, you can always download some to find out what "Single Opera" is

Cool! That looks helpful.

Did someone mention in this thread that there was a more formal method to joining two different remotes into a single upgrade instead of creating an upgrade from two learned remotes?

It's usually best to tell us what you're trying to do, rather than seeking help in how you've chosen to do it, because there might be a simpler solution.
So my first question is, WHY do you want to combine 2 different remotes? Generally speaking, a universal remote IS a combination of several different OEM remotes, with each OEM remote being represented by a different device button on the universal. But there are occasions when we need a few buttons from somewhere else in the current device mode. The most obvious one is for volume, where you might want most of the buttons to work your DVD player, but you want the volume buttons to work your TV or your stereo. We have a concept called VPT (Volume Punch Through) to handle that. Another case might be for INPUT buttons, where you might want a button that selects the right input mode on the TV or stereo for the DVD player. For that, you might use keymoves to copy the input function from TV to DVD mode, or you might program a macro that performs all the necessary steps.
Also, in most cases, different devices not only use different device codes, but also different protocols, so combining them is more difficult.
So again, please describe what you're trying to do, or more specifically WHY you're trying to do it, and we'll see what the best approach is.
Setting Up JP1 Apps...?

On page 3 of this thread SysTech larry stated
"I found a way to put two devices in a single upgrade. It worked perfectly on my URC-3660, but it crashed on my Charter URC.
Two other upgrades did the same, but most have worked on both."
and on page 4 mdavej stated "Don't ever edit the RMDU in notepad.
You also got lucky combining devices. Both must have used the same protocol by chance. Otherwise, you can't mix protocols without the combiner."
So i think SysTech Larry is asking about the "Device Combiner"

I think he got lucky before because both devices used NEC1 and he probably used one of the NEC combo executors. Normally speaking, if you really do need to combine devices, you would use the Device Combiner, but given that Larry is very much a beginner here, I didn't want to suggest that, as that's quite advanced.

My Magnavox DVD TV OEM remote uses TV code 1963 (NEC1 135.34)
My Emerson HDTV TV OEM remote uses TV code 1864 (NEC1 132.224), but most accepts basic TV commands from protocols @ TV-1963 (& TV-1394, Emerson Combo 41).
On the URC-3660, key-moving the Emerson's exceptional keys in with the Magnavox device has worked fine, but the Charter URC does not maintain individual key protocols in the same scenario. I was hoping that your formal method would work on the Charter URC.
(I use the 3660. I program the Charter for another family member.)
Also, I did not previously combine two devices manually. I used key-learn to teach keys from two different devices and, choosing keys from each, used RMIR's "Convert To Device Upgrade" button.
