I'm working on making some of these changes for the next KM release. I don't think we have finally resolved this discussion, but for the time being my main focus is just to get support for the remote-resident protocols working correctly.

For now, I'm still keeping Sharp DVD, but adding the Style argmuent I mentioned elsewhere. Only 00F8:3 will be available as an upgrade.

I'm also adding support for PID 0171 (built-in only, no upgrades) as "Sharp DVD (old)".

In addition to changing the Kaseikyo help text per the Capn's request, I've added a text message on the Setup tab that will suggest the use of Sharp DVD for Kaseikyo-170.90 when the user has entered those parameters. In addition, the message computes the Main Device & Sub Device numbers that are needed for Sharp DVD.

I've also written & added beta Kaseikyo executors for the HCS08, SST, 6805-RC16/18 & P8/740 remotes.

I can't find parts of the discussion we had about this. I thought Rob had agreed to change "device" in "Sharp DVD" to be the same value that is decoded by DecoderIR for Kaseikyo, and is documented by Sharp when they document their use of Kaseikyo signals.

Since Rob had no objections, I'm still planning on changing the Main Device number for Sharp DVD to use the Kaseikyo decoded value. For compatibility with existing upgrades, I'm toying with the idea of interpreting the device value in two ways. If it is greater than 15, then I would look only at the upper 4 bits, otherwise I'd use the lower 4 bits.

Since the PID 00F8 executor is also used for Fujitsu, do you think we should change it to use Kaseikyo device numbering as well?

Bump.

I see where in KM, the Sharp DVD (old) (0171) PID selection correctly appears and is useable for the 8910/9910HTPro, but the Sharp DVD (00F8) is also still available and incorrectly shows that it can be used in the 8910 WITHOUT a Protocol upgrade. The version of 00F8 in the 8910/9910/HTPro is not the same one as in other remotes, and if selected (an unwise choice) should require a Protocol Upgrade from KM.

In RM, however, none of these clarifications are present, and trying to build the Sharp DVD upgrade using decoded Kaseikyo data (which is still what one gets from learning and decoding Sharp DVD signals) remains impossible, unless you use the Kaseikyo protocol (01C9) which calls for an unnecessary Protocol upgrade, while the correct PID (0171) is available, but not readily usable, since there are no help notes linking the Kaseikyo, Sharp DVD, and PID 0171 listings.

Can this be addressed in RM with a series of Protocol notes that appear when the given protocols are selected?

I'm not sure what I'm asking for is achievable, but I don't believe that it is unreasonable. To wit: A learned signal is decoded as Kaseikyo 170.90 8:48. If you use RM and the 8910 rdf family, there is NOTHING that will point you to using the perfectly viable, built-in PID 0171 (or for OTHER remotes, to the equally viable built-in 00F8 Sharp DVD executor), and if you stumble upon it, nothing to translate the Kaseikyo decode parameters into the PID 0171 required parameters to build the upgrade. Hence the average user will normalloy end up with an unnecessary protocol upgrade since he will build his upgrade using PID 01C9.
