Thanks for the encouragement ....

I had no trouble loading upgrade and new protocols.... The only trouble is I don't know if they work cause the remote is DOA after upload....

2 possibilites ......1 the remote was an earlier model 7550 , and not listed on the KM drop down menu, so I chose 7560/2 ,..... This is virtually the same and the IR program sees the 7550 &7560/2 as one and the same..... But maybe not good enough

And 2... should I have zero-ed all before I started ..????
All learned , protocol , devices .... I thought a clean start would be good.

But as i said no trouble loading upgrades , and the remote can even download the new configuration in the IR program.... but no lights, no response.
This being one of my older models I thought I'd use to learn on , do I now jump in and try it on a 7560..... and hope for the best ...????

Another option might be to experiment with an old Radio Shack 15-2116.

Can anyone suggest how to breathe life into ye 'ol 7550. ??

None of the JP1 operations you have done could damage your remote. If it's not working, then either the EEPROM is somehow confused/corrupted (the fix for which is an MFR reset), or there is a hardware problem that has cropped up (due to age, sunspots, lightning strikes, kids dropping the remote in the toilet, whatever) coincidental to your current JP1 efforts.

Have you tried to do an MFR reset?

First, remove a battery and press any button;
Reinstall the battery;
Press and hold Magic until the LCD screen indicated you are the remote's setup mode;
Press the RECORD button;
Follow the prompts on the LCD screen.

If you cannot get this to work, then the problem is hardware, and NOT caused by JP1-ing the thing.

You should not feel hesitant to switch to trying JP1 wih one of your other remotes, either the 7560 or the 2116. I'm more familiar with the 2116, and have never harmed it by conducting all sorts of bizarre up and down-loads to it.
