When you press a shifted button, the actual keycode of the button (as seen by the remote) changes (the top bit is set, for the techie minded). So if the natural keycode is 0x01 the shifted keycode would be 0x81.

Therefore for macros, rather than including SET and the button, you can just include the shifted button (omitting the SET button altogether)

For the macro that you describe, you are actually including the SET button, you're not including any shifted buttons. So, if you just include one press of SET, you'll still be missing one of the required presses in order to use the number keys for shifted macros.

Steve, I do have a spare thumb pad for your URC-8910, so shoot me an email with your address and I'll send it to you.

Normally my macro that lets me use the Guide button in place of the "set" button for selecting shifted functions used one instance of "set". For testing , I changed the macro to include 2 instances of "set[setup]" (Guide=set[setup];set[setup])

Surprisingly this allows my replacement "set" key to work both with normal shifted buttons and numeric buttons. Since this button cannot be used to enter setup mode (only the "real" set button can do that) it doesn't seem to cause any problems. It also works to send EFC's (advanced codes) Obviously within a normal macro you don't have to mess with "set" at all. My SHIFT-AUX=CBL;SHIFT-6;AUX macro turns my A/V switch to input 6 and sets the remote to control my remotely located MediaMVP.

With my 6131 and extender , of course , a second set or shift function is one of the features. I find the recessed set key difficult to press when selecting shifted functions.
