Yup. I am a bit disappointed that, with very few exceptions, people are talking about how cool the past was, and almost no-one is lookin forward.

With the help of this tool, I have made a dump of the current Wiki. So for a new (Media-) Wiki host, I see (at least) two immediate possibilities: GitHub has a Wiki feature, unfortunately it appears to have problems with the MediaWiki format images (the existing JP1 wiki is Mediawiki). I have a problem with the current wiki license "GNU Free Documentation License 1.3 or later"; this appears to be crafted for program documentation and the like, not for "pages". Wikipedia for example is licensed under the "Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License". Possibly a change would be possible?

The forum is snapshotted at archive.org, see for example this for a snapshot from February 11. However, only page 1 of the threads are archived, and also not the downloads.

So there is some components still missing. In particular, the device upgrades, my #2 above.

That archive.com page is helpful.

I have created a Github "organization" hifiremote. To participate, just register on GitHub, and let me know that you want to be added.

I have created a half-finished repository deviceupgrades. The jp1-master1.**.xsl files have been checke in as one, versioned file jp1-master.xsl. The checkins have been tagged with the original version numbers.

I have also checked in the A/C files; the rest are planned to follow.

Feedback, opinions? Accusations of copyright violation?

Thanks for making that. Can we add our own upgrades, or is it read-only?

One ask - if you end up taking the site down, would it be possible to archive the files section (in a .zip?, I'm not sure what the internal structure is) so it could be made available elsewhere (github?)? archive.org doesn't archive the files.

I have checked in all the device upgrades to the previously descibed hifiremote (without hyphen!).

On GitHub/hifiremote I have created the repositories Extenders, Miscellaneous-JP1 (calling a repository Miscellaneous would sound silly), ReplayTV, Tools, HelpFiles, Protocols and Slingbox, all with the content of the corresponding JP1 file section.

Loss of this site would be sad for me. I use my JP1 remotes every single day, although I only check in here on rare occasions when something isn't working right, or I need to change something and have forgotten how.

Don't discount the site's worth based on the number of days between posts. My usage has always been 99% reading and 1% posting. And my reading is usually searching for solutions to a problem, or reminding myself how to do something.

I like that some of you are taking the initiative to make sure all this doesn't suddenly vanish. I hope that a master list of where everything can be found is compiled and prominently displayed.

I'd like to add my thanks to Rob and all those that have contributed over the years. I came here today to possibly send a link and recommendations to a friend that could benefit. So it is a disappointment to see this wonderful resource disappear.

Fortunately, I have collected enough 3660's (6) and one 3680 to serve my needs for some time to come. At my advanced age (80), my systems are unlikely to change much. But I do use RMIR regularly to "touch up" my systems.

FWIW, I disagree that streaming has made remotes less important. We are an all Roku house and I have developed a number of macros that I would not want to do without.
