URC-8040

Post by AliSmith »

Hi,

I'm struggling a bit here to set up my URC-8040, so I'd really appreciate some help. :?

I'm trying to program the 8040 to control my Thomson DHD4000 DVR. I've downloaded the initial setup from the 8040, so the hardware side of things is working OK. So the next thing to do is to use KM to set up the new device (which is not yet available in the Codes section). Unfortunately, when I load up the spreadsheet, my remote is not listed in the drop-down list. And the readme file stresses that it is important to select the correct remote. So what do I do? The URC-8060 is listed, should I use this, though it has additional buttons the 8040 doesn't have?

I then tried to use RemoteMaster to set it up. I sorted out the new setup for the device, using a RM table I came across on the Digital Spy site, and that seemed to be fine. But if I save the file as XXX.rmdu for example, when I then try to load it into KM, it complains that it is not a valid format file. I tried the same thing using the clipboard, with the same result. I'm using IR V6, KM V8.31 and RM V1.16

So I'm a bit stuck now. Help!

If you built the upgrade in RM just leave it in RM and use it from there. RM and KM are virtually the same function wise. You build your device and alter your device to your liking and copy it to IR to build the remote setup and install it in the remote.

If you built the upgrade in RM you don't need KM at all. There is an output tab in RM. You can COPY the upgrades from there and paste into IR.

Mark (the guy who maintains KM) doesn't always add new remotes to KM anymore, unless they're a really common remote, because once a working RDF has been created, you can use RM to manipulate upgrades.

I've used RM to cut the update, which I then pasted into IR, uploaded, and hey presto! it works!! :D My first successful upgrade.

Thanks
