OK i think i have this 99% figured out.
as an example to others using my Sanyo VCR
i did the learn a code routine for the power button and assigned it to button A

I then downloaded from this remote using IR.exe and it had learnt

No, as the device would be in the ROM portion of the chip. You can add the extra keys as keymoves though, in most cases.

what about if you had two remotes one of them a learning remote could you get the learning remote to learn the modified device with advanced codes and create an upgrade in IR ...

am i right in thinking if the device is in ROM you cant just pull it out with Ir hack in your advanced functions and create an upgrade?

so using the sanyo code 0104 isn't possible as the basis of an upgrade
