Additional info:
I temporarily rigged one of my older Replay-Panasonic remotes with 4 batteries. Remote still functions normally.
However, using IR8.03 as before, interface check works fine, but "Download From Remote" still yields error "jp12 read failed -1".

Could be.
I also tried a replay remote that came with the replay 5000 series - it also uses 2 batteries & it gives the same error message.
Does anyone still sell a USB cable that works for JP1 (EEPROM) remotes?

Problem with DIYGadget JP1 adapter
1) JP1.x (It's the only choice not grayed-out)
2) Looks like I started with the ones that don't work:
Replay remotes (Replay/showstopper version 1) marked "replay" or "Panasonic" - both give the error message.
However the following JP1 remotes work fine:
Radio Shack 15-1994, 15-1995 and 15-2117 ...

I have a DIYGadget JP1.2/1.3 USB Cable and JP1.2/1.3 to JP1 Adapter.
Installed software, computer (Windows 7-64 bit) recognizes "Prolific USB-to-serial COMM Port (Com5)" and cable works with JP1.3 remote and IR8.03.
I then connected JP1 Adapter, and connected to JP1 remote (that
