'Tis a pity.

I just came across this remote for the first time in the store and thought that it could serve as a successor to my beloved OFA 8820.

Physically, it's very similar, and has illumination!

Thankfully, I've still got an unopened spare 8820 waiting in the wings.

The 8820 reappeared on Amazon last week for $20 as well. From a 3rd party seller, but shipped by Amazon. eBay has been dry for the last couple weeks I've looked. I also scoured local stores to no avail.

For anyone who still has them, the market price has been between $15-20, so those who got in on ...

The URC-8820 has tons of learning memory, so your best move really is to just learn all of the buttons from the original remote.

The manual says capacity is "50 to 70 keys." Is that per device, or as a whole? Starting from scratch, it would have to learn about 30 keys or more for this device ...

Thank you both.

The player is a Patriot PBO Core, which apparently uses the NEC1 protocol. As well as feeling flimsy, its remote has a fair number of buttons, so I'd prefer not to learn them. I've tried all the available device codes associated with that protocol, but none of them work.

I guess ...

What model remote do you have now?

An 8820B00 that lacks a device code for a media player I have.

They never mod remotes. They only exchange when the model is not physically upgradeable (like the URC-6131) but was sold as upgradeable.

Where do they get/and in what condition are the remotes ...

Anyone do a mail-in upgrade lately?

I'm curious as to how the process is, post-Audiovox.

I find myself in a situation where I'm considering three options--

1) Mail in my current remote for an upgrade. However, I'm quite fond of my remote. Despite being a few years old, it's still in great shape, and I'm uncertain whether OFA still ...

Thank you both.

Your clarifications helped fill in the blanks that the linked reference guide did not.

However, I'm still uncertain about this procedure in the OFA manual. Though the reference guide states that macros cannot be programmed to the device buttons, this says otherwise:

PROGRAMMING A ...

8820-A few simple questions

Howdy:

New toys for Xmas (yay) means it's time to reprogram the remote. This is usually easy, but this time some things didn't work as anticipated (boo), which leads to some questions:

-Is there a method to reset the user programming for a single device and not affect the others?

From what I read ...
