I understand. I was thinking that you were shielding the internals of the repeater from the noise, not the antenna itself. You have basically made a directional antenna for the repeater. Unfortunately, since I use the remote all over the house, there isn't any place that I can effectively shield the ...

RF interference and range

banjo

I just found your post from march.

Did you find a way to protect yourself from the interference or increase the range.

I don't know if you ever saw my post. I was looking into similar issues. I really wanted to increase transmit power, but I don't know enough about the electronics to do ...

Jim,

I've been offline for a while and just got around to reading this post. If you ever decide to mod some remotes, I'd be interested in getting a red/white/blue one. Especially if you could get the right-angle LEDs.

I'm not very familiar with electronic components, but since you seem to be, and ...

There are probably two issues that are hurting your performance.

The first may be RF interference. You can check for this by observing the IR receiver box when you are NOT using the remote. Look at the unit, preferably by using an electronic viewfinder (like in a camcorder or digital camera) to see ...

I did this mod as well, although I used a variable resistor so I could tune it to the optimal filtering.

I have a question about your faraday cage. I experimented with something similar using aluminum foil (no, not a hat) but it did not help very much. I came to the conclusion that any interference ...

Another update for anyone who cares.

The best Li-ion battery pack that I could find was for a Sharp BT-L225
pictures and specifications can be seen here:
http://www.interbatteries.com/product_info.php/products_id/2286

I carefully opened the battery pack and removed the internal cells as well as ...

I ended up using a variable resistor so I could keep adjusting it until the interference stopped. I'm not sure what my final value was, though, I never bothered to check.

Update:

The remote is still working, but I have run into a slight problem....9V batteries do not have very much capacity.

I noticed today that the performance was decreasing and the remote was saying "Low battery" Which means that it is now worse than having 4 average charged AAA batteries.

I ...

I've been using it for a couple of days without a glitch.

After cutting out some of the plastic, I was able to get the 9V battery in the back of the unit, and get the battery cover on, but it still sticks out a bit far so the cover bulges up a bit and pops off easily.

Right now I've just put some ...

Just thought I would post an update for anyone who is following/cares.

One nice thing about acquiring several items for a ridiculously low price is that it encourages experimentation.

Against the advice of those in the forum, while I had the back of one of my 9910s popped off, I wired in a 9V ...

Sorry, I've been away for a couple of days, yes I was definitely talking about RF strength.

I never have problems with direct IR, but I get tired of doing windmills with my arm trying to find the "sweet spot" for the RF when I am in distant rooms.

The reason I was asking about boosting the voltage ...

Tommy,
Thanks for the info.
If I can get my hands on an oscilloscope, I should be able to use that to fine tune the antenna to 430Mhz, right?

If so, I think my boss has one I can use. Otherwise, I'll try the manual tuning method this weekend.

Now, realizing that adjusting that capacitor will only ...

9910 and HTPro transmit power

I got in on the X10 HTPro deal. I'm replacing an older 9910 with the donut ring.

What is interesting/bothersome, though, is that the 9910 seems to have a bit more transmit power than the HTPro. In my basement room I have a very hard time getting the HTPro to work, but the 9910 works acceptably.

I ...

Thanks, I'll keep my eye open for one...I'd only seen them retail for around $40-$50....which one the one hand is a bit much, simply because I just bought 7 of those HTPro units on the X10 deal so I have a few spare parts to experiment with...

The video selector is an Emerson EVS4000

I think I got it from Radio Shack, but I don't think it has any IR learn capabilities, it came with a simple 4 button remote.

The selector box reacts both to the original Comcast remote as well as the JP1 I have configured with it.

I use the URC 9910, so ...
