JP1.4 and JP2 remotes don't use the "break" mechanism to initate programming mode. Doh! Thanks for the education, 3FG. I should have delved into the 'jp12serial.cpp' source code a bit before commenting. Sorry for the noise, folks.

I've been successfully cleaning & restoring my JP1 remotes for many years now.

I use hot water and liquid hand soap with an old toothbrush to scrub both sides of the rubber keypad, being more gentle on the underside.
