Have you verified via any other means that the card is working (like connecting a printer or some other device).
I don't know that anyone else has used a PCMCIA card, but I think it should work in theory. However, a USB cable would be simpler (and cheaper than buying a card, if you didn't already ...

Can't access remote using a PCMCIA LPT card on laptop
My company upgraded my laptop and the new one didn't have an LPT port so they gave me a PCMCIA parallel port adapter. I've got it configured for LPT1 but IR 714 can't see it. Is there anything I can do or should I get the USB cable.
