JP1 Remotes

Has anyone noticed if the speed of this remote is not what it should be? I am a little disappointed as to how slow it works. Is there an update somewhere (maybe an extender) that might address the issue? For instance, using the Scientific Atlanta remote that the cable company provided I can turn on ...

OK. I will be out of town for about a week, but right after I will get on it. I'm pretty skilled at soldering so it will be neat to be the first one to do it, I guess.

I keep reading hints that it is possible to turn this remote into full learning mode by adding the components that are missing, but I have not been able to find full schematics on the subject.

Has anyone been able to do this? If so, can someone please post schematics/how tos?
