What remote should I start out with?
I'm new to JP1 and haven't gotten a remote yet to start experimenting with. What remote would you all suggest? I have a minimal number of components (DVD, VCR, and TV. A/V receiver went up in smoke a month ago ) But I'd like something I could grow into with plenty of buttons to experiment with macros (even though I don't really need them at this point). Thanks!

You will get a lot of recommendations from this group but the basic question you need to first ask youself is how much you want to spend. A couple of good ones to start with are the URC-8812w from WalMart for about $20, the RS-2116 or 2117 from Radio Shack for about $30, or the URC-8910 or 9910 for about $40. All of these are jp1 ready out of the box and all have extenders available for advanced functionality.
After you choose the remote you need to either build a cable or buy a ready made one which you can find vendors for in the market place on this forum
