Am I doing something wrong?

Post by Zap »

Hi,

I found this forum a while back while trying to come up with a way to get a Pioneer Service Remote GGF1381.

This is what I've done

I found a text file here on the site for the remote.
I downloaded IR.exe and KeymapMaster
I opened km in Excel and loaded the text file
I chose the kind of remote that I have (URC-8811) in the dropdown box
I gave it a value of 2000 and a device type of DVD
I copied the data to the clipboard and went to IR
I downloaded from the remote to make sure it works
I went to the devices window and hit Add
I pasted the info from km into the window
I went to the general window and assigned the DVD button on the remote the value of 2000
I uploaded the info to the remote
I unplugged the remote and selected the DVD

no luck...

Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance

No luck - did anything work? what didn't?

I lost you after you copied data to the clibpboard.
You downloaded WHAT from the remote?
Ate there any learned signals in the remote? If so, delete them.

Did you assign functions to buttons in KM after changing the remote?
Did KM indicate you need to also add the Pioner protocol to IR? If so that could be what's missing.

How about you tell what KM file you used and post your IR file in the diagnosis. Make sure to add links.

By nothing worked I mean my device didn't respond to any of the keypresses at all

When I say I downloaded from the remote I mean that I just went to Remote->download from remote to verify communication.

Yes there is one set of learned signals - I'll delete them

No - I didn't assign any functions to buttons

I didn't see anything about a pioneer protocol.

This is the text of the device upgrade file...

This is the info pasted to the IR window

Thanks for your help!

Thanks, kokalarobia,

That's the thread that started me on this journey. I've gone through every link related to that one a hundred times but I think my problem is more fundamental... I'm a noob :)

I've tried to RTFM but so far have been unsuccesful

Seems that erasing all the extra stuff made the difference.

I deleted all the keymoves, macros, and learned codes and voila!

Thanks for your help!

Dear Zap,
I forgot to tell you. I made this mistake so now I cannot restore factory settings any more.
The first thing to do is to backup up the raw contents of your remote by IR.exe, prior to do anything. Then store the file in a secure place. So you will be able to go back if disadvantage case. Do it now, may be it is not too late. Good luck ! :)

Thanks for the tip, koka, but too late for me and this remote...I bought it used off the for sale forum on this site and it was already modified. No big deal, though. The only purpose I had for it was to use it as a service remote. My main remote is a Home TheaterMaster MX-700 which I've had a few years now. It's got a big brother MX-900 coming to replace it next week (I wanted RF capability) but it's been a good friend for a few years now.

Thanks for helping me out with this. I woulda been stuck with a dead DVR without!
